United Launch Alliance marked a key transition point for its rocket fleet as it flew its 58th and final national security mission with its Atlas 5 rocket. It first launched a national security mission back in March 2007. The July 30, 2024, launch of the United States Space Force 51 (USSF-51) mission also marked the 100th national security launch for ULA since its inception.
With this milestone in the rearview mirror, the launch provider continues the work towards fully certifying its Vulcan rocket to launch national security payloads as well. The second certification mission, dubbed Cert-2, is targeting launch in the September timeframe.
