When an object revolves around another object in the same path again and again, then that path is called the orbit of that object and all the periodic orbits are elliptical, most of the objects which revolve around the Sun, looking at them, it seem as if they are moving on an imaginary flat surface and that imaginary surface is called the ecliptic plane. Whenever an object or body orbits the Sun, a point in its orbit is closest to the Sun, which is called perihelion and a point is farthest from the Sun, which is called aphelion. Like other objects, Earth is also orbiting the Sun elliptically. And the dates of its perihelion and aphelion also keep changing due to many reasons. Like this year on January 4, the Earth was at its perihelion, and on July 4, at its aphelion.
