Night Slashers" is a classic beat 'em up arcade game developed and published by Data East in 1993. The game is set in a world overrun by supernatural creatures such as zombies, vampires, and werewolves, and it's up to the players to stop them.
The game features three playable characters, each with their unique strengths, weaknesses, and elemental powers:
Jake Hunter, an American monster hunter with cybernetic arms. Known as the "Psychic Cyborg", Jake is the most powerful character and his element is lightning.
Christopher Smith, an English vampire hunter and martial artist. Christopher is the most balanced character with average speed and power. His elements are water and ice.
Hong Hua Zhao, a Chinese martial artist proficient with mystic arts. Despite being smaller than the other characters, she is the most agile. Her element is fire.
The gameplay is similar to other beat 'em up games like Capcom's Final Fight and Sega's Streets of Rage series. Players move from left to right through each level, fighting enemies until they reach a boss character at the end. The game also features a horror theme, with players fighting through hordes of attacking zombies and mutants, as well as other monsters such as vampires, werewolves, and elementals.
The game stands out for its horror theme and larger move sets for characters, including "smart bomb" or "screen zapper" type moves. The ultimate goal is to stop the evil plans of King Zarutz from turning our planet into a worldwide kingdom for the dead. The game was later ported to the Nintendo Switch in 2018.
