Şimal Zağra (FU Berlin) widmet sich in ihrer Masterarbeit in Interdisciplinary Studies of the Middle East auf künstlerisch-wissenschaftliche Weise klanglichen Phänomenen in der muslimischen Bestattungspraxis. Diese Bestattungspraxis geht von der Annahme aus, dass der Tod nicht das Ende des Hörens markiert. Für ihre Videoinstallation hat sie den Ort Silivri (Provinz Istanbul) besucht und dort mit Totenwäscherinnen und trauernden Gläubigen gesprochen. Einen weiteren klanglichen Ausdruck des Kontakts mit den Toten stellen die Gebete dar, die bei einer muslimischen Beerdigung gesprochen werden. Sie haben ebenfalls Eingang in die filmische wie die wissenschaftliche Auseinandersetzung gefunden.
Auf den Vortrag reagiert Dr. Gesine Palmer, Projektmitarbeiterin beim Center for Intellectual Diaspora an der Katholischen Akademie in Berlin und Trauerrednerin.

A scientific-artistic consideration of sound in Muslim funeral rituals
Şimal Zağra (FU Berlin) dedicates her Master's thesis in Interdisciplinary Studies of the Middle East to sound phenomena in Muslim funeral practice in an artistic as well as scientific way. This burial practice is based on the assumption that death does not mark the end of hearing. For her video installation, she visited the town of Silivri (Istanbul province) and spoke to mortuary attendants and mourning believers. The prayers spoken at a Muslim funeral are another sonic expression of contact with the dead. They have also found their way into the cinematic and academic debate.
Dr. Gesine Palmer, project collaborator at the Center for Intellectual Diaspora at the Catholic Academy in Berlin and funeral speaker, responds to the lecture.
