It's a common precaution for those who like to spend time in bear country. "Bring a dog" as the saying goes "and you dog will help deter bears." That's the very response I received after publishing my last video about bear attacks.
Well, conventional wisdom can be treacherous. As it turns out, dogs cause and worsen bear attacks. Both grizzlies and black bears have demonstrated greater aggression when dogs are present. On leash, off leash, the result is often the same.
