Mrs. Mary Thomas, age 90, was born on January 17, 1933 to the late Mr. Malayil Eapen John and the late Mrs. Panalikkuzhiyil Aleyamma John in Mallappally, Kerala, India. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Mr. Thekkanal Idiculla Thomas, who was a clerk at CMS High School, Nedungadappally, and her brothers, the late George John and the late Mathai John. While she was living in India, she followed in her mother’s footsteps as a teacher. From 1953 to 1988, she was a legendary teacher and spent 21 years also working as a headmistress at Saint Thomas Lower Primary School in Nellimoodu, Mallappally. She taught tens of thousands of students over the course of her career. She was a member of Saint Thomas C.S.I. Church in Nedungadappally, Kerala. After the passing away of her husband in 1994, Mrs. Mary Thomas immigrated to the United States in 1995 and settled in Pennsylvania with her son, Mr. John Thekkanal Thomas, and his family. She was a member of C.S.I. Christ Church in Pennsylvania and Emmanuel C.S.I. Church in Philadelphia. She was an active member of the Northeast Adult Day Care in Philadelphia and enjoyed spending time with her Malayalee friends in the community. She enjoyed reading, singing, solving word search puzzles, watching Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, and Flowers Oru Kodi television shows, being involved in church prayer groups, teaching, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Mary Thomas was called to be with THE LORD on Monday, September 4, 2023 while surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed by her family, friends, former students, and the community. Mrs. Mary Thomas is survived by: Brother: A.J. John Children: Sam Thekkanal Thomas (son) and his wife, Saramma (Molly) Thomas John (Balu) Thekkanal Thomas (son) and his wife, Sue John Susan Mohan (daughter) and her husband, Mohan Scharia George (Mona) Thekkanal (son) and his wife, Sara Thekkanal Suma Roy Kurian (daughter) and her husband, Roy Paruppallil Kurien Grandchildren: Blesson Thekkanal Thomas (grandson) and his wife, Dolly Thomas Brian Thekkanal Thomas (grandson) and his wife, Bonnie Thomas Mary John Kifferly (granddaughter) and her husband, Jamie Kifferly Rebecca John (granddaughter) and her husband, Neil Taras Elizabeth John (granddaughter) Sanju Scharia (grandson) and his wife, Asha Sanju Manju Jacob (granddaughter) and her husband, Jacob Mathew Monica Mary Fugate (granddaughter) and her husband, Isaac Fugate Marvel Thomas Thekkanal (grandson) Ivan Paruppallil Kurian (grandson) Kevin Paruppallil Kurian (grandson) Great-grandchildren: Jonah Thekkanal Thomas Olivia Mary Kifferly Jaclyn Susannah Kifferly Neva Sanju Nathan Sanju James Thekkanal Fugate A visitation for Mary will be held Friday, September 8, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at CSI Christ Church in Pennsylvania, 3155 Davisville Road, Hatboro, Pennsylvania 19040. A visitation and funeral service will occur Saturday, September 9, 2023 from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM, 3155 Davisville Road, Hatboro, Pennsylvania 19040. An interment will occur Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 12:30 PM at Forest Hills Cemetery, 25 Byberry Rd, Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania 19006.
