Henry Purcell : March from "Music for the funeral of Queen Mary"

Fledermaus1990 Henry Purcell (1659 - 1695) was the organist at Westminster Abbey at the time of the death of Queen Mary II in 1694. Although the Queen had requested that there be no state occasion upon her death, the outpouring of national grief led to a state funeral that took place on 5 March 1695. Purcell composed a setting of the sixth of the seven sentences of the Anglican Burial Service for the occasion, together with the March and Canzona. Music from the work was adapted by Wendy Carlos for the soundtrack of Stanley Kubrick's 1971 film, "A Clockwork Orange".
