The Apostle Paul is making his case that justification is by faith apart from any human merits, efforts, or achievements. In fact, if a person thinks that justification is by faith plus any human works and participation, then you have compromised the gospel all together (Galatians 1:6-9, Romans 11:6)! The "Church of Christ" have compromised the gospel by demanding that a person cannot be made right before God unless that are "obedient" in the ceremonial work of baptism.
