Evan Milligan is the executive director of Alabama Forward. Evan was born into an artist-activist family that started organizations in its free time. His parents would give him things to pass out in the community, which inspired a sense of belonging and connection to people that cared about Black people.
This work motivated Evan to remain a part of the movement culture as an adult.
Evan Milligan’s work with Alabama Forward includes spreading pro-democracy values throughout the state. The organization focuses on voter registration and mobilizing and inspiring communities into deeper levels of civic engagement.
Alabama Forward helps people to find the right type of engagement that works for them so that they can be serving, learning, and contributing to a community-based movement in Alabama.
Alabama Forward’s Shake the Field program helps educate and inspire Alabamians aged 18-45 to embrace civic engagement. The digital space encourages them to become active in artistic and cultural communities within Alabama.
