John 17 is Jesus' longest prayer. i am calling it the Lord's Prayer because he is the Lord and he prayed it. This prayer is different than what is normally called the Lord's Prayer because that prayer is a teaching prayer. This prayer is a prayer where Jesus prays for himself, he prays specifically for encouragement and protection of the disciples and future believers The prayer is delivered by Jesus at the end of his Farewell Discourse. It is a three-part prayer.
This study is the first part - Jesus prays for himself. A variety of topics which are ancillary to the actual topic of the prayer are the world (walking in rebellion against God), Jesus leaving glory for a time and his return to glory, what God's Rest really means as it pertains to Jesus finishing his work on the cross and what it means when Jesus refers to those God gave him.
