This chapter further deals with the defeat and desolation of Egypt, but also the nations around Egypt and Judah. We see the mightiness of Babylon up against the weakness of Egypt, Judah and those surrounding nations. All of this occurs because of the failure of Egypt to protect these countries through established alliances. Their failure is illustrated through a reed which is thought to be the strength of Egypt but collapses when leaned on for strength and support.
