China-Laos-Thailand Railway halves the price of imported durian in Chinese markets

ShanghaiEye魔都眼 Considered the “King of Fruits” in some parts of the world, the durian is distinctive for its thorn-covered rind and strong aroma. Though some find the smell off-putting, many love the unique and creamy taste.
A report released by the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation says China accounts for more than 90-percent of global durian imports, a number that’s reached 6-billion US dollars in the past two years.
The price used to be about 10 to 14 US dollars per kilogram, but since May this year it’s dropped by about half, increasing the popularity of durian in China.
