Usman Khawaja Speaks Out Against ICC Charge After Wearing Black Armband During Perth Test | 10 News

10 News First Usman Khawaja has spoken out against the International Cricket Council (ICC) after being charged overnight for wearing a black armband during last week's Perth test, which the opener claims was worn for personal reasons.
"I’ve followed all past precedents. Guys have put stickers on their bats, names on their shoes, done all sorts of things in the past without ICC approval and never been reprimanded. I respect all the rules and regulations," he said.
The Australian cricketer wore the armband during the first test against Pakistan, but has told the ICC is was “for a personal bereavement” rather than a political stance against the atrocities in Gaza.
Khawaja is currently in talks with the ICC over an 'appropriate' way to publicly demonstrate his support for those caught in the Israel-Gaza conflict.
The Aussie Cricketer will not be allowed to wear the armband in the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne.
