CALL TO WORSHIP (Based on Romans 1:1-17)

L: This is the gospel promised in the Holy Scriptures, regarding God’s Son, who in his earthly life was a descendant of David.
C: And through the Spirit of holiness was appointed Son of God in power by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord.
L: For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.
C: For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed – a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: ‘The righteous will live by faith.’

Prayer of Confession
O Lord our God, you have searched us and known us. Our sins, our foolishness, our selfishness, and self-righteousness, are not hidden from you. If you should mark our transgressions, who would stand? But you, O Lord, are gracious and patient, abundant in mercy and forgiveness. You have given to us your Son, Jesus, as revealed in the gospel, to redeem us from our sins and to restore and remake us anew into your image. Teach us to commit ourselves to your fatherly care. Cleanse us from our guilt and sins. Strengthen us to walk in your ways. We ask all this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
