Today I'll be going over my AK setup/loadout for maximum suppressive fire capability, pushing a regular 7.62x39 AK into the role typically filled by a RPK.
For a while now I've been noticing various Russian and Ukrainian special operations units ditching the traditional RPK, and instead just throwing drums or RPK mags into their regular AKs.
This is not because a regular AK is as good at being an automatic rifle as an RPK, but rather they are choosing to instead run more PKMs, and increasing the capacity of some of their rifleman to still give them some suppressive fire capabilities.
PKMs are dedicated medium machine guns, and can easily be ran by a single person, similar to how certain units in the US military chose to run 7.62 MK48s (1 man) over the M240B (crew served).
I thought this was interesting, so I wanted to setup my own version of what they are doing, so today I'll be going over why I setup my AK the way I did to support this, as well as go over some good gear choices to carry more ammo than what is typical in a normal fighting load.
