Day 29 of 31 Songs in 31 - Back in the Sand
billythekidofficial This one started after a conversation with a veteran and fellow foster kid. He was recounting some stories between deployments, particularly his struggles with PTSD (this was WAY before this was a familiar acronym). He casually tossed out the term "Back In the Sand" and I knew I had to write him a song.
He would go on to check in with me *from* the sand, even sharing the song and a handful of live performances with some fellow soldiers while stationed overseas. We kept in touch for years, eventually drifting apart overall, but I'll always remember the special glimmer in to his experience that I was so fortunate to be a part of.
