Neem, HEER’, mijn bange klacht ter oren;
Zie, als ‘t aan woorden mij ontbreekt,
Wat d’ overdenking in mij spreekt;
Verwaardig U, uit ‘s hemels koren,
Mijn stem te horen!
Sla ied’re zucht, mijn hart ontgleden,
Opmerkend gâ; schenk mij ‘t genot
Uws heils, mijn Koning en mijn God;
Ik zal tot U, met mijn gebeden,
Eerbiedig treden.
‘t Rechtvaardig volk zult Gij belonen,
Terwijl Gij, HEER’, hen overdekt,
Hun tot een veilig schild verstrekt.
Gij zult goedgunstig hen bekronen,
Ja, bij hen wonen.
Translation:
Take, Lord, my fearful complaint to hear;
See, if lack words,
What the meditation speaks in me;
Seek out, from heaven’s choirs,
To hear my voice!
Note every sigh, my heart has slipped,
Note it; give me the pleasure of
Thy salvation, my King and my God;
I will come to You, with my prayers,
Stepping reverently.
Thou shalt reward the righteous people,
While You, O Lord, cover them,
Provided them with a safe shield.
Thou shalt graciously crown them,
Yes, and live with them.
