Chinese carmaker BYD reportedly surpassed Tesla in the fourth quarter of 2023 to become the world's top pure electric vehicle maker. The rapid growth of new energy vehicles (NEV) helped propel China to the position of world No. 1 last year in carmaking, exporting 5.2 million cars in total.
