So who remembers Alphabet Castle? It starred Joanne Campbell and Stephen Cannon, and it helped educate viewers to become more familiar with letters while also entertaining them with stories, musical interludes, animated bits, and more. It ran for three series in the mid-90s, and it was the brainchild of a certain Michael Cole, who was also behind such classics as Bod, Fingerbobs, Chock-a-Block, Pigeon Street, Bric-a-Brac, Heads and Tails, and many, many more.
This particular episode, which I think was originally broadcast on Wednesday, 1st December, 1993, focuses on the letter V, and follows the events of a Very Important Person coming to visit. Gobbledygook the Talking Turkey gets in on the act and also features in the story about trying to look superior. That said, he's slightly undermined by his theme tune's melody being rather reminiscent of Rhubarb and Custard's, and also the accidental cursor that appears in the bottom right at 4:48.
But I shouldn't be all nit-picky - it's a nice, well-made programme, and although I was completely the wrong age for it at the time, I'm sure Alphabet Castle will mean a lot to a fair few out there. Meanwhile, regulars on this channel may recognise Queen Bet from an episode of T-Bag:
