The short vertical lines represent the current salaries of these individuals, while the circles represent how much annual salary they need to feel happy or less stressed.
Even those making over $200k a year believe they need $350k. Why is this? The phenomenon is known as 'the hedonic treadmill', meaning we quickly get used to our new level of income, and our expectations and desires rise in tandem. This viewpoint suggests that wealth doesn’t increase the level of happiness.
So, what’s the takeaway? While it is natural to strive for more, finding contentment in what we have is the real key to happiness./media:description>
