media:description>At CRD, we daily feel privileged to work with artists and composers from across the world and we delight in projects that encourage one musical genre to bleed into the next, those that push us all to rethink what ‘classical’ music might and could be.
And so today we are releasing the first single from a cherished neighbour and Bristol music phenomenon – trumpeter, pianist, multi-instrumentalist and composer @petejudgemusic.
Trumpets (and the orchestra!) please for ‘Orcop Haiku’ from forthcoming album 'Piano 3', stunningly supporting by organic film work (using coffee grinds!) from audio-visual artist and award-winning composer @kathyhinde.
Throughout the album, not least here, Pete invites us to enjoy moments when, in Pete’s words, 'Satie meets Finzi on a stony path through the borderlands of England and Wales'.
As Pete shares about 'Orcop Haiku': ‘This is the title of the writer Frances Horowitz's final poem, written in view of Garway Hill from her bedside in the remote village of Orcop in the Welsh Marches. I love her elliptical, economical way with words, and the sense of those ancient, remote landscapes just beyond the rain-spattered windows. She’s a poet who deserves to be much better known and is definitely one of Finiz’s prize ‘shrubbes’.
To listen to this track (including in Dolby Atmos where supported) on Spotify, Apple and elsewhere and to pre-save the album, head to the link in the bio.

media:description>Melody Lin dazzles with virtuosic fireworks on the harpsichord on her debut album.
Here, we have a snippet from Antoine Forqueray's 1747 suite, which includes a work entitled 'Jupiter.
Prof. Robert Zappulla writes:
'[This track] contains a very active left-hand part, swift registral changes, and
convoluted rhythmic passages. Jupiter, undoubtedly an allusion to the
Roman god, is the longest and technically most arduous movement in
the suite, with a terrifically active right-hand part and a final couple
that contains tremolos and exhaustive scalar and arpeggio figuration
in thirty-second- and sixty-fourth-note values that conjure the image
of divine thunderbolts.'

CRD writes:
The harpsichord often gets overlooked, undeservedly so. It is an instrument that takes no prisoners; it demands precision and craft, musical sensitivity and more. In Melody Lin’s performances, the rewards are great: as listeners, we are treated to the translation of black dots to bursts of exuberant colour, from elegance to joy to thunderous expressions of foreboding. If the music were to be represented in film, we would move from calm, pastoral scenes to mountainous terrain. This is in fact riveting cinema. We hope you enjoy the views.
Robert Zappulla, Professor of Music, Claremont Graduate University, California, writes:
"The music performed by Melody on the present recording comprises a painstaking selection of technically exacting pieces that span the entire period of Baroque harpsichord composition as well as an array of genres and styles. The title Virtuoso Harpsichord Music is fully warranted here; each of the works performed contains at least one intimidating passage or section that would be the source of consternation for most harpsichordists.

media:description>A sparkling reimagining of Rameau's depiction of peaceful forests. In this piece, we are reminded that peace and tranquillity are to be found only in the natural landscape (originally the woods of North America from the fourth entrée of Rameau's opera 'Les Indes galantes'). The mood Rameau creates is a surprising fusion of elation and contentment.

1:: Pete Judge – Orcop Haiku with film by Kathy Hinde
01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 19.04.2024 · 09:57:41 ··· ··· ··· ··· ··· ··· At CRD, we daily feel privileged to work with artists and composers from across the world and we delight in projects that encourage one musical genre to bleed into the next, those that push us all to rethink what ‘classical’ music might and could be.

2:: From Roman gods to planets – 'Jupiter' by an C18th composer? #classicalmusic #planets #harpsichord
01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 08.03.2024 · 14:41:56 ··· ··· ··· ··· ··· ··· Melody Lin dazzles with virtuosic fireworks on the harpsichord on her debut album.

Listen to the next single (5th April) La Rameau. https://orcd.co/rameaulin
