A multi-linguist herself, Yasmin draws on her experience supporting women throughout their pregnancies as she shares her tips for having the necessary conversation about the importance of learning a native language in order to better access healthcare, education and other support services. Yasmin is a specialist registrar in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, a Clinical Fellow in fertility & reproductive medicine, and a Trustee of the Maternal Mental Health Alliance. She adopts a holistic approach to her clinical practice, recognising that physical and mental wellbeing are interconnected. Yasmin’s clinical medicine experience, her academic specialism in Tropical Medicine & International Health, and her lived experience of the specific vulnerabilities that women who have emigrated face all fuel her passion to advocate for women’s physical and mental wellbeing. Yasmin is particularly committed to resolving healthcare inequalities and is keen to implement and scale interventions that drive improved healthcare outcomes for all women including those from ethnic minority and low socioeconomic status backgrounds. She recognises the pivotal role that breaking the language barrier can play in improving immediate clinical outcomes for women as well as enhancing women and their respective communities’ long-term socio-economic prospects. TEDxHartlandHill 2023 Theme: The Art of Living This event explored the art of finding balance and purpose in our lives and featured a diverse lineup of speakers who share their unique perspectives and experiences from the academic to the artistic, the concrete to the cutting edge. www.tedxhartlandhill.org Adrian Tans is a painter, illustrator, and sculptor living in Woodstock, Vermont. As a self-taught artist, he has appreciated success as an oil painter for galleries throughout New England and as a children’s book illustrator. Over the years he has also developed a passion for impermanent art through his work as an internationally award-winning snow sculptor; and more recently, through his ongoing public art project, The Woodstock Town Smiler. “The Smiler”, as is it has come to be known, is a free-standing chalkboard in the center of the village where Adrian has been creating large detailed chalk pastel drawings every few weeks for the last few years. It has come to be something of a group exercise in non-attachment in the community, which Adrian finds to be a continual source of interest and inspiration. Adrian works as the director of youth services at The Norman Williams Public Library in Woodstock and lives with this son and two dogs in the village. This led me to research and discover that sexual dysfunction is a global problem, and most people lack sexual education. By understanding our bodies, desires, and societal biases, we can prioritize communication and orgasmic equality to open up sex in a new way. Dr. Casperson is a board-certified practicing urologist interested in the power of the mind and science to change our views of sexuality. After many years in practice, she had a life-changing patient that made her curious to learn everything she could about female sexual wellness. After she learned all she could, she created a podcast called You Are Not Broken, which consistently ranks in the top 10 in the Apple “sexuality” category in multiple countries. It has been nominated for an AASECT award for three years running. She is an engaging and humorous storyteller making people comfortable with often uncomfortable topics and changing lives in the bedroom and out with her practical, valuable tips. She is also the author of the bestselling book, “You Are Not Broken: Stop Should-ing All Over Your Sex Life.” This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. ··· ··· ··· ··· Città e cultura materiale come spazi condivisi: innovazione, ripetizione, metamorfosi. 32:: Why Women’s ideas are not heard | Katrine Kielos-Marçal | TEDxVitoriaGasteiz

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 14.06.2023 · 16:54:36 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· Did you know that electric cars existed back in the early 20th century but were discarded because it was a woman’s vehicle? They weren’t manly enough. Katrine Kielos-Marçal argues that **gender bias** has pushed women out of economic sectors into lower status and paying jobs. Up until the mid 1960s, computer programming was a woman’s industry. Then, it became men’s reign. And, along with them, came higher salaries and status. It seems as if money and status keep following men around in the economy. Why is that? The problem is that our definition of innovation and technology largely follows our definition of masculinity. So, how can we change that? Katrine Kielos-Marçal is a bestselling author on women and innovation. Her first book Who Cooked Adam Smith's Dinner? has been translated into more than 20 languages. Margaret Atwood called it "a smart, funny and readable book on women, economics and money". It was named one of The Guardian's books of the year in 2015. BBC also named Katrine one of its 100 Women in 2015. Katrine's second book Mother Of Invention: How Good Ideas Get Ignored In An Economy Built For Men was shortlisted for Business Book of the Year in Germany and for the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Nonfiction in the US.
