He is describing what the Kingdom of Heaven is like. A landowner goes to the market at various points in the day to look for workers for his vineyard. At the end of the day he lines up the workers from those who worker the least amount of time to those who worked the most amount of time. He gives them all, regardless of hours worker, a denarius. The workers who have been there working in the vineyard right from the beginning of the day grumble. They think this is unfair and they should be paid more because they worked longer. Probably most of us would side with these disgruntled workers. It is unfair! Surely God sees how unjust this is? But we are applying our own worldly sense of justice to a Kingdom that belongs to God. Our justice system is not His. Our sense of merit equaling work doesn’t fit in His Kingdom. What things should we notice about this parable? First, the landowner himself goes to the market several times during the day to find workers. This would have been unheard of, a landowner going to market himself and not sending someone in his place. Second, the workers that get chosen first would have been familiar with the system and been good negotiators. The workers hired at the end of the day were the forgotten and discarded ones. They may have been unable to work as hard. They wanted to work, but couldn’t find it. The landowner would have known this and yet he keeps going back to the market. Not because he needs more workers, but wants more workers. This move towards relationship sounds a lot like God. Third, at the end of the day when everyone gets paid the same amount the landowner is not being unfair. The first workers were promised a denarius and that is what they are given. He doesn’t give them less that what they were promised. Their hard work has not been discredited. It is just that those who worked only one hour receive a denarius as well. I wonder how many times we have been thankful when someone offers us more than what we think we are worth because of our circumstances. What is this parable about? God’s economy of grace! Our perspective of what is going on in this parable might change if we replace the word denarius with grace or salvation. The landowner gives out grace, all at equal value regardless of work. The landowner gives out salvation, the same salvation for all. If we replace denarius with grace or salvation, I bet none of us would say to those drowning in the mess of their own lives that they should have just worked harder. Grace and salvation are God’s alone to give out as He sees fit. And He does so freely without strings attached. It has nothing to do with us. It can’t be earned. However, this is not an invitation to live any way we want. We are invited to live as the landowner, to move towards relationship and give grace freely to all around us. We all have value, not because of what we have done, but because of who we are. We are all image bearers of God. We are blessed to be a blessing. The Kingdom of God is an upside down one where we suffer to get well, surrender to win, die to live, and give away to keep. God’s grace means that all our mistakes serve a purpose instead of serving shame. We are called to give out grace as wastefully as He does to everyone!/media:description> media:community> media:starRating count="0" average="0.00" min="1" max="5"/> media:statistics views="11"/> /media:community> /media:group> /entry> entry> id>yt:video:EIdDAC-Iq-k/id> yt:videoId>EIdDAC-Iq-k/yt:videoId> yt:channelId>UCpHcnkMwVd2O3-IXBe9uIhA/yt:channelId> title>Sunday Service April 14, 2024/title> link rel="alternate" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EIdDAC-Iq-k"/> author> name>Knox Church Waterdown/name> uri>https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCpHcnkMwVd2O3-IXBe9uIhA/uri> /author> published>2024-04-15T03:18:03+00:00/published> updated>2024-04-16T17:52:38+00:00/updated> media:group> media:title>Sunday Service April 14, 2024/media:title> media:content url="https://www.youtube.com/v/EIdDAC-Iq-k?version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="640" height="390"/> media:thumbnail url="https://i2.ytimg.com/vi/EIdDAC-Iq-k/hqdefault.jpg" width="480" height="360"/> media:description>Welcome to online worship. Don’t worry we will come back and cover the chapters we skipped over for the Easter season. Pastor Grant’s prayer this Easter is that it is a chance for our weary souls to slow down and remember a God who is for humanity in all its forms. His hope this Easter is that we would be open to the possibility for God to speak to us, remind us who He is and who we are created to be in Him. In this chapter of Matthew, we see Jesus picking up the mantle of three titles… Jesus as King, Jesus as Prophet, and Jesus as Priest. Chapter 21 begins with Jesus riding a donkey and her colt into Jerusalem. Crowds throw their cloaks and tree branches on the ground. They shout, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven!” Jesus enters Jerusalem as King. This is in stark contrast to the majority of His ministry. After performing a miracle Jesus would often say, “Say nothing. It isn’t my time yet.” Now in chapter 21 we see that Jesus’ time is here! He arrives as King and claims to be King. He is living fully into this title and all that would come because of it. And He is not just a king, but the King. He is the Messianic King, the Son of David, the King of Kings, the one we have been waiting for, the Saviour King. In this moment Jesus is being bold, but He is an unexpected King. He is the Servant King riding a donkey, not a war horse. When Jesus enters Jerusalem some in the city ask, “Who is this?” The crowds answer, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.” He enters the temple courts and drives out all who are buying and selling there. He overturns the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves. He continues to be bold. He steps into the role of Prophet by pronouncing judgement. He points out where the people have gone wrong and calls them back to God and what they should be doing. He says, “My house will be called a house of prayer, but you are making it a den of robbers.” To call Jesus Prophet is to admit there is a need for judgement against human sin. This buying and selling in the temple courts is disrupting and distracting to true worship. He is calling us to repent and wake up because the Kingdom of Heaven is here. Finally, Jesus assumes the role of Priest. One who restores life and life abundant where there was brokenness. He heals the blind and lame that come to Him at the temple. Children are shouting in the temple courts, “Hosanna to the Son of David.” The chief priests and the teachers of the law are indignant. Palm Sunday confronts us with a choice. We can accept Jesus as all three (King, Prophet, and Priest) or become indignant towards what accepting all of Jesus calls us to give up/change/surrender. It is all or nothing. It is hard and humbling work. What tables need to be overturned in your life? Anger, resentment, bitterness, worry, fear, control, jealousy, lust, impatience? The hope of Palm Sunday is that Jesus has turned His full attention to the cross and the brokenness of humanity. He is laser focused towards what comes next!/media:description> media:community> media:starRating count="0" average="0.00" min="1" max="5"/> media:statistics views="16"/> /media:community> /media:group> /entry> entry> id>yt:video:mpuVKu6NuPg/id> yt:videoId>mpuVKu6NuPg/yt:videoId> yt:channelId>UCpHcnkMwVd2O3-IXBe9uIhA/yt:channelId> title>As Goes Jesus, so Should Go His Followers (Matthew 18: 1-5, 10-14)/title> link rel="alternate" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpuVKu6NuPg"/> author> name>Knox Church Waterdown/name> uri>https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCpHcnkMwVd2O3-IXBe9uIhA/uri> /author> published>2024-03-25T17:40:13+00:00/published> updated>2024-03-30T00:24:29+00:00/updated> media:group> media:title>As Goes Jesus, so Should Go His Followers (Matthew 18: 1-5, 10-14)/media:title> media:content url="https://www.youtube.com/v/mpuVKu6NuPg?version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="640" height="390"/> media:thumbnail url="https://i2.ytimg.com/vi/mpuVKu6NuPg/hqdefault.jpg" width="480" height="360"/> media:description>Last week we were in chapter 17. This chapter, which talks about the transfiguration of Jesus, is a turning point for Jesus and His disciples. Jesus is establishing who He is, the Son of God and Messiah. He and His disciples are now pointed towards the cross. There is a pattern in the gospel of Matthew. Often there is an event that sets the stage for Jesus to teach. Last week Jesus was revealed to Peter, James, and John as the Messiah. This week in chapter 18, Jesus begins to teach His disciples about how the Messiah should be and what this means for those who follow Him. The disciples were expecting their Messiah to be a conqueror like a general. Jesus moving towards death on a cross in Jerusalem was not matching up with their expectations. Jesus begins to correct this. He teaches on Isaiah 53, where the image of the Messiah is a suffering servant or servant king. One who would lead by serving. Jesus’ disciples ask Him, “Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” He then tells them to become like little children. What does this mean? We see “child” and think wonder and curiosity, energy, and zest for life. Becoming like a child sounds great! But Jesus is talking about the role and status of children in His day. They had no status, no autonomy, no decision making power. They were on the lowest rung of the status ladder. Jesus’ instruction to His disciples and to us, is to become the lowest, to put ourselves in this place towards God and others. Later in chapter 18 Jesus talks about lost sheep. He talks about a shepherd going after one lost sheep although there are ninety-nine that are safe and sound. The economy of this doesn’t sound right. Really, risk the ninety-nine for the sake of the one? YES! If you are like the lost sheep, then Jesus is telling you, you are enough. There is nothing that will prevent Him from going after you. God’s love is relentless. If you are one of the ninety-nine, then this might be hard to hear. God doesn’t love you more even though you have remained faithful and haven’t strayed away. In fact, the shepherd will rejoice over the one lost sheep that has been found more than the ninety-nine. Here at Knox we strive, “To be a church that works to embrace those that are far from God.” Why? Because as we have seen in chapter 18 this is God’s heart for us and the world and it should be our hearts for each other. As goes our leader Jesus, so should go those that follow Him. He is our example. Henri Nouwen said, “If God is compassionate, then certainly those who love God should be compassionate as well.”/media:description> media:community> media:starRating count="0" average="0.00" min="1" max="5"/> media:statistics views="100"/> /media:community> /media:group> /entry> entry> id>yt:video:P0vbEDpsDb4/id> yt:videoId>P0vbEDpsDb4/yt:videoId> yt:channelId>UCpHcnkMwVd2O3-IXBe9uIhA/yt:channelId> title>Sunday Service March 24, 2024 - Palm Sunday/title> link rel="alternate" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0vbEDpsDb4"/> author> name>Knox Church Waterdown/name> uri>https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCpHcnkMwVd2O3-IXBe9uIhA/uri> /author> published>2024-03-25T04:50:11+00:00/published> updated>2024-03-27T11:34:39+00:00/updated> media:group> media:title>Sunday Service March 24, 2024 - Palm Sunday/media:title> media:content url="https://www.youtube.com/v/P0vbEDpsDb4?version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="640" height="390"/> media:thumbnail url="https://i1.ytimg.com/vi/P0vbEDpsDb4/hqdefault.jpg" width="480" height="360"/> media:description>Welcome to online worship. The veil between heaven and earth was thin. God was present in the moment. In Mathew 17 Jesus’ three disciples, Peter, James, and John, experience such a moment. A week earlier Jesus and His disciples find themselves in a place filled with people worshipping all sorts of idols and gods. It is in the midst of this that Jesus asks His disciples, “Who do you say that I am?” Peter responds, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the Living God.” Now, a week later, Jesus invites the three up a mountain to show them who He really is. He is transfigured before them. His face shines like the sun, and his clothes become as white as the light. He reveals that He is fully God. The glory of God is on full display. He is the light of God. He is joined by Moses and Elijah, two others who had mountain top encounters with God. Moses and Elijah point to Jesus and Jesus points us to the coming hope, where God will dwell on earth with us and restore things to what they were meant to be. Peter’s response to this is to offer to make shelters for the three – Jesus, Moses, and Elijah. He is trying to make sense of what he sees. He is taking what is happening in front of him (something completely new) and putting it into a box he knows and understands. He is trying to contain God. Maybe if I could just hold on to this moment, Jesus wouldn’t have to die. How often do we try and contain what God is doing? Or limit what He is doing according to our own understanding or lack thereof. What box have we put God into? While Peter is still speaking God interrupts and says, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!” The disciples are terrified and fall face down to the ground, but Jesus touches them saying, “Get up. Don’t be afraid.” Our lives will be filled with fear until we learn to fear God. What does this mean? Until we learn to have an undivided heart. Fearing God is not the same as terror, anxiety, or dread. The disciples get up and see Jesus, only Jesus. Allow God to be God. 2:: God’s Economy of Grace (Matthew 20: 1-16)

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 16.04.2024 · 16:20:47 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· In these verses of this chapter of Matthew Jesus is teaching using a parable about workers in a vineyard. We are called to give out grace as wastefully as He does to everyone!

··· ··· ··· ··· In these verses of this chapter of Matthew children come to Jesus and then a rich man. The disciples make assumptions about how Jesus will treat these children and this rich man. Jesus does the exact opposite to what the disciples expect. The cool thing about the gospel is that it constantly challenges our expectations!

10:: Jesus - King, Prophet, & Priest (Matthew 21: 1-17)

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 26.03.2024 · 17:05:08 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· We continue in the gospel of Matthew, but skip ahead to chapter 21, seeing as it is Palm Sunday. He is laser focused towards what comes next!

11:: As Goes Jesus, so Should Go His Followers (Matthew 18: 1-5, 10-14)

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 25.03.2024 · 17:40:13 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· Last week we were in chapter 17. Henri Nouwen said, “If God is compassionate, then certainly those who love God should be compassionate as well.”

18:: Believe (Acts 16)

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 26.06.2023 · 18:12:58 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· In Acts 16 we find the story of the jailor. Paul and Silas are in Philippi preaching the gospel. There is a woman of unclean spirit following them around and shouting. Eventually Paul casts the demon out of her. However, the person who owns the woman and is profiting off her work, which she can no longer do, becomes angry. Paul and Silas are beaten and thrown into prison. The jailor is commanded to guard them carefully. He puts them in the inner cell and places their feet in stocks. It is midnight and Paul and Silas are praying and singing. The other prisoners are listening. There is a violent earthquake, all the prison doors open, and the chains of every prisoner fall off. The jailor wakes up. He assumes all the prisoners have escaped, so he draws his sword and is about to kill himself. In the Roman world at this time, a jailor would have to endure the punishment intended for the prisoners that he "allowed" to escape. Paul cries out from the dark, "Don't harm yourself. We are all here." The jailor asks, "What must I do do be saved." Paul answers," Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved." This is a story of two salvations. Paul and Silas decide not to take the opportunity to escape and in doing so save the jailor's life. The jailor gets it! He realizes that their altruistic acton speaks to something different in them and how they have chosen to live their lives. Paul simply points the jailor to Jesus (He's the difference), His life, death, and resurrection. The jailor and his household are saved and baptized. What else can we learn from this story? Salvation is free. We do nothing to earn it. It is not by our own actions, but the actions of Jesus. Believing is an action, not an emotion. We must trust in Jesus as our only Lord. Paul and Silas chose to trust Jesus by praying and singing to Him in prison. They trusted regardless of their situation. They chose to trust again when the doors were opened and their chains thrown off. Because of this trust the jailor and his whole household got to know Jesus and (if you continue reading in Acts 16) Paul and Silas were set free! Jesus said, "Freely you have received, so freely you can give."

··· ··· ··· ··· Welcome to online worship. We are so glad to have you joining us. Pastor Grant completes his four-week series in Acts called BECOMING - Stories of Early Christians. Each person we have examined in this series thus far has represented a different archetype that needs to be changed by Jesus, including the continued becoming like Jesus that each of us requires in our own lives. Today's focus is The Jailor (Acts 16). The jailor's transformation is sudden and unexpected. He is not interested in religion, but just doing his job well. He's a pretty innocuous character, yet God still grabs a hold of his heart (and subsequently his whole family). See below for links... CLICK HERE TO GIVE: https://www.knoxwaterdown.ca/ways-don... 20:: Repentance (Acts 8)

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 19.06.2023 · 17:16:38 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· In Acts 8 we find the story of Simon the Sorcerer. Simon practiced sorcery in Samaria. He amazed those from all walks of life. They gave him their attention and followed him. Simon boasted that he was someone great. Philip comes to Samaria and starts to preach the gospel of Jesus. People believe and begin to get baptized, including Simon. Simon follows Philip everywhere and is astonished by the signs and miracles he sees. Peter and John come to Samaria to see the new believers. When they arrive they lay their hands on these new believers and pray that they receive the Holy Spirit, which they do. When Simon sees this he offers Peter money to also receive the Holy Spirit. He wants this power. Peter says, "May your money perish with you because you thought you could buy the gift of God with money. You have no part in this ministry because your heart is not right before God. Repent of this wickedness and pray to the Lord that He would forgive you for having such a thought in your heart. I see that you are full of bitterness and captive to sin." Simon responds, "Pray to the Lord for me so that nothing you have said may happen to me." Simon's story gives us a good opportunity to look at repentance. We need a better understanding of what repentance means. At the end of the day Simon never really changes. He is only in it for himself. He doesn't allow the gospel to change the way he thinks about power and authority or the role it plays in his life. He just incorporates Jesus into everything he has been doing before, without any change. Repentance is allowing God to change your mind/heart on many different topics over and over again AND then to allow Him to change your walk. A change in your mind must lead to action, living in a different way. What do you expect to get out of your relationship with God? Yes, He is our Rescuer/Saviour, but if it ends there we can still be the most important person in our own lives. We must surrender our whole lives to Jesus. What would happen if you allowed Jesus to not only be your Saviour, but the King of your life as well?!

22:: Are You Searching for God? He is Searching for You! (Acts 16)

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 14.06.2023 · 16:53:53 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· In Acts 16 we find the story of Lydia. Lydia is a dealer of purple cloth (ie a business woman). She is from Thyatira, but staying in Philippi. She is a recent convert to Judaism and the leader of her household. On their second missionary journey, Paul and Silas head to Philippi. On the Sabbath they head down to the river outside the city, hoping to find people meeting in prayer. This is where they encounter Lydia praying and worshipping God in a gathering of women. As they share the gospel with her, Lydia's heart is opened. She and her household are baptized. She invites Paul and Silas to be her guests and they stay with her for a while. Lydia is the first convert to Christianity in Philippi. Her generosity of spirit helps to build one of the first power house churches in the New Testament. Her search did not end in vain. What can we learn from Lydia's story? First, Lydia was searching for God. She positioned herself in a place of prayer and worship. Her heart and mind were ready to receive God when He showed up in the lives of Paul and Silas. A search for God has meaning and hope because God is in fact searching for you. You are of concern to Him. God pursues humanity. We see this all through scripture. Paul was led to Lydia through the Holy Spirit. He wasn't just throwing darts at a map. God searches out Adam and Eve when they hide from Him after eating the forbidden fruit. God pursues Jonah when he refuses to go to Nineveh. Jesus Himself talks about going after the one lost sheep, even though there are 99 which are not lost. God may be searching for you. Are you positioning yourself so that you are ready when He shows up? Second, maybe you aren't waiting or searching, but know exactly where you are. Maybe God is calling you to be a Paul or Silas to someone else. Are you positioning yourself to be led by the Holy Spirit?

24:: From Religion to Relationship (Acts 10)

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 07.06.2023 · 17:14:05 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· In Acts 10 we find the story of Cornelius the Roman Centurion. Although not Jewish, Cornelius has decided to follow the Jewish customs. He and all his household are devout and God-fearing. He prays regularly and gives generously to the needy. Although his life has undergone some level of transformation already, there is still more transforming to be done. An angel appears to him and says go and send for Simon Peter from Joppa. Peter eventually comes to Cornelius and shares the gospel with him. He tells him about Jesus and how God has made a way for everyone! The Holy Spirit falls on Cornelius and all those listening and they are baptized. Although Cornelius is following all the rules and doing everything right, he still needs the gospel. The gospel message needs to sink deep down into his soul and get a hold of his life. Striving to keep every rule, removes God from the equation. Religion can be one more way we find fulfillment under our own strength. It isn't about what we can do to earn God's love. God's love and grace are a gift. Instead, it is a relationship we enter into. It is about embracing a life changing relationship with a God who loves us. We must allow the gospel to change us from the inside out. Timothy Keller said, "Christianity isn't a call to be religious. It is a challenge to religion." Jesus was all about challenging the religion of the day. It is all about moving from religion to relationship with Him!

26:: Pentecost & the Holy Spirit (Acts 2)

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 30.05.2023 · 15:09:42 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· Pastor Grant has AI write a sermon on pentecost and the Holy Spirit. The resulting sermon is missing something. It is missing the Holy Spirit, the exact thing about which it is writing! It is not theologically wrong, but God's presence and power are absent. So, who is the Holy Spirit? What does the Holy Spirit do? The Holy Spirit first appears in Genesis 1 at creation, as God's creating breath. At Jesus' baptism the Holy Spirit descends upon Him in the form of a dove, claiming Him and anointing Him for His ministry ahead. Following Jesus' resurrection, He gives the Holy Spirit to His disciples by breathing on them. They receive the Holy Spirit. It is a gift, an invitation into relationship. In Acts 2 Jesus has ascended to heaven. His followers are waiting in an upper room. The Holy Spirit rushes in like a wind and fills each one present, settling on each one as a tongue of fire. They begin to speak in tongues. The crowds gathered in Jerusalem hear the gospel in their own language. Peter explains that this is the fulfillment of an Old Testament prophecy. In the Old Testament the Holy Spirit empowered a few, the Holy Spirit empowered Jesus for His ministry, and now the Holy Spirit empowers us all. The gospel is for everyone! No one person or nation is more privileged than another. The Holy Spirit is the power of God which brings life, claims and calls us together, anoints, sends us out, commissions us, and unites the church in the mission of the gospel.

28:: How Do We Wait Faithfully? (Acts 1)

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 24.05.2023 · 17:19:41 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· In Acts 1 Jesus ascends to heaven and the disciples are faced with a season of waiting. Before ascending, Jesus tells them to go back into Jerusalem and wait for the Holy Spirit. As they stare up into the sky, two messengers appear and tell them that Jesus will come back. However, the disciples don't know when... more waiting. When we are faced with times of waiting what encouragement does Jesus have for us? Yes, we may not know the time or day when He will return. That is hard. However, we do not wait alone or idly. He has not left us empty handed or without work to do. We have been given power in the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the person of God with the world living in human hearts. We are not getting vague power, but God Himself coming to live in the middle of our lives. We have also been tasked with being Christ's witnesses in the world, living out the gospel in our hometowns, to our neighbours (yes, even the ones we don't like very much), and to all neighbours near and far (ie to the ends of the earth). Jesus meant the gospel for all people, not just Israel. Waiting is never easy, but don't get distracted by it. We know what we are called to do. Look outside yourself. What if your season of waiting/uncertainty was God's way of bringing the gospel to someone else? Don't miss out on being someone else's miracle. Embrace seasons of uncertainty. How did the disciples respond to their season of waiting? They stopped staring aimlessly into the sky and headed back to Jerusalem. They got to work. They embraced God's call inside their season of waiting. And how did they start their work? With prayer. How will you wait faithfully?

30:: Women of Valour (Proverbs 31: 10-31)

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 17.05.2023 · 15:50:53 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· Proverbs 31 makes up a part of the wisdom literature. It was written like a poem or song by King Lemuel. Lemuel refers to a king who belongs to God. It was likely written by King Solomon. When we read this Proverb, taking into consideration the original language in which it was written (Hebrew) and the meaning behind the words, we see that it is talking about a woman of valour. A noble, military hero who is strong and courageous. A warrior woman. A woman who is like a lioness, hunting to provide food for her family. She is fearless and powerful. A woman who is able to bring prosperity in adversity and double security in seasons of difficulty. How this Proverb describes women points to great Biblical women like Naomi and Ruth, Judge Deborah, and Lydia. The story of Naomi and Ruth is found in the book of Judges. Naomi is an Israelite who loves God. She has two sons who marry Moabite women. When her sons die she decides to head back to Israel. One of her daughter-in-laws Ruth, pleads to go with her. She says to Naomi that your God is my God. Ruth, a noble woman, goes on to marry Boaz and in doing so becomes a part of Jesus' lineage. Also in the book of Judges we find Judge Deborah. She is the 4th judge of Israel and probably the greatest. She is a prophetess and fights on the battlefield. She is a warrior. We find Lydia in the New Testament, the book of Acts. Paul is in Greece and looking for a group of men to share the message of Jesus with. Instead, he finds a group of worshipping women, one of whom is Lydia. Lydia is successful in business and well known in the community. Paul sees in her a woman of valour and she becomes a believer. She goes on to be the founder of the church in Philippi, being elevated to almost the status of an apostle.
