Die Menschen konnten sich, während der COVID-19 Pandemie darauf verlassen, dass die grundlegenden Dienstleistungen für den Alltag auch in der Krisensituation gut funktionierten. Infrastruktur wie Strom-, Energie- und Wasserversorgung, öffentlicher Verkehr, Müllabfuhr, Abwasserentsorgung, Gesundheitswesen und Kinderbetreuung sind Dinge, die Jede*r benötigt. Auch der soziale Zusammenhalt war in Wien besonders gegeben in diesen schwierigen Zeiten. Welche Maßnahmenpakete zur weiteren Finanzierung und des Ausbaus der öffentlichen Infrastruktur sind nötig? Welche Zukunftsthemen müssen in die Weiterentwicklung einer öffentlichen Daseinsvorsorge miteinfließen, Stichwort Klimaschutz? Wir wollen mit unseren hochkarätigen Diskussionsteilnehmern die zukünftige Rolle des Staates und der öffentlichen Hand, sowie den weiteren Wiener Weg diskutieren.
Besonders in Krisenzeiten wir der Ruf nach Interventionen der öffentlichen Hand laut. Öffentliche Gelder sollen dann Markt-getriebene Systeme stützen und Wachstum sichern. Es wird vergessen, dass öffentliches Kapital jederzeit in unserem Land, in jeder Region, in jeder Stadt gemeinsam mit privatem Kapital produktiv ist. An diesem Abend wollen wir die volkswirtschaftliche Bedeutung des kommunalen Sektors beleuchten und dahingehend einige Bereiche in Fokus setzen und Fragen nachgehen wie zum Beispiel wie sehr es öffentliches Engagement im Infrastrukturbereich braucht? Welche Bedeutung hat öffentliches Kapital im Wirtschaftssystem auf das Wachstum unserer Wirtschaft und auf die Beschäftigung? Wie wichtig ist es, dass die öffentliche Hand als sozialer Unternehmer im Bereich der Grundversorgung der Bevölkerung mit Investitionen präsent ist und wie ist die Rolle des öffentlichen Kapitals in der regionalen Entwicklung zusehen?
