media:description>Hymn - Gather around, for the table is spread
Organ accompaniment with words.
Music: William Ross
Words: Jeanette Holloway
1 Gather around, for the table is spread, welcome the food and rest!
Wide is our circle, with Christ at the head, he is the honoured guest.
Learn of his love, grow in his grace, pray for the peace he gives;
here at this meal, here in this place, know that his spirit lives!
Once he was known in the breaking of bread,
shared with a chosen few;
multitudes gathered and by him were fed, so, will he feed us too.

Organ accompaniment with words.
Music: Noel and Tricia Richardson arr. M. Archer
Words: Noel and Tricia Richardson
1 All heaven declares the glory of the risen Lord.
Who can compare with the beauty of the Lord?
Forever he will be the Lamb upon the throne.
I gladly bow the knee and worship him alone.
2 I will proclaim the glory of the risen Lord,
Who once was slain to reconcile us to God.
For ever you will be the Lamb upon the throne;
I gladly bow the knee, and worship you alone.

TIMESTAMPS
Adagio: 00:00-01:44
Andante Largo: 01:46-03:54
Moderato: 03:57-07:21
Charles John Stanley (17th January 1712 – 19th May 1786) was an English composer and organist.
Stanley's works include the opera Teraminta, the dramatic cantata The Choice of Hercules, twelve other cantatas with texts by John Hawkins, the oratorios Jephtha, The Fall of Egypt and Zimri, and instrumental music, notably three volumes of voluntaries for organ (1748, 1752, and 1754). Nearly all of the voluntaries feature a short, slow introduction followed by either a solo-stop movement (such as the so-called trumpet voluntaries) or a fugue. Some of the former have been arranged in modern times for string chamber orchestra and trumpet.

media:description>Hymn - The Day Thou Gavest, Lord, Is Ended
Organ accompaniment with words.
Tune: St Clement by Clement Scholefield 1839-1904
Words: John Ellerton 1826-1893
1 The day thou gavest, Lord, is ended,
The darkness falls at thy behest;
To thee our morning hymns ascended,
Thy praise shall sanctify our rest.
2 We thank thee that thy Church unsleeping,
While earth rolls onward into light,
Through all the world her watch is keeping,
And rests not now by day or night.
3 As o'er each continent and island
The dawn leads on another day,
The voice of prayer is never silent,
Nor dies the strain of praise away.
4 The sun that bids us rest is waking
Our brethren 'neath the western sky,
And hour by hour fresh lips are making
Thy wondrous doings heard on high.
5 So be it, Lord; thy throne shall never,
Like earth's proud empires, pass away;
Thy kingdom stands, and grows for ever,
Till all thy creatures own thy sway.

media:description>Hymn - Abide With Me
Organ accompaniment with words.
Tune: Evensong by W.H. Monk 1823-1889
Words: H.F. Lyte 1793-1847
1 Abide with me; fast falls the eventide;
The darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide!
When other helpers fail, and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, O abide with me.
2 Swift to its close ebbs out life’s little day:
Earth's joys grow dim, its glories pass away;
Change and decay in all around I see;
O thou who changest not, abide with me.
3 I need thy presence every passing hour;
What but thy grace can foil the tempter's power?
Who like thyself my guide and stay can be?
Through cloud and sunshine, O abide with me.
4 I fear no foe with thee at hand to bless;
Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness.
Where is death's sting? where, grave, thy victory?
I triumph still, if thou abide with me.
5 Hold thou thy cross before my closing eyes;
Shine through the gloom, and point me to the skies:
Heaven's morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee;
In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me!

media:description>Hymn - Virgin Born, We Bow Before Thee
Organ accompaniment with words.
Tune: Melody contributed by L. Bourgeois c.1510-1561 to the French Psalter 1542 (p.86). Harmony by R. Vaughan Williams 1872-1958
Words: Bishop R. Heber 1783-1826
1 Virgin born, we bow before thee:
Blessèd was the womb that bore thee:
Mary, Mother meek and mild.
Blessèd was she in her Child.
Blessèd was the breast that fed thee:
Blessèd was the hand that led thee;
Blessèd was the parent's eye
That watched thy slumbering infancy.
2 Blessèd she by all creation.
Who brought forth the world's salvation.
And blessèd they for ever blest.
Who love thee most and serve thee best.
Virgin born we bow before thee:
Blessèd was the womb that bore thee:
Mary, Mother meek and mild,
Blessèd was she in her Child.

media:description>Hymn - The Strife is O’er, the Battle Done
Organ accompaniment with words.
Tune: Victory by W.H. Monk 1823-1889. Adapted from the Gloria of Palestrina’s Magnificat Tertii Toni with Alleluya by W.H. Monk.
Words: Latin 17th century. Translated by Francis Pott 1832-1909.
1 The strife is o'er, the battle done;
Now is the Victor's triumph won;
O let the song of praise be sung.
Alleluya!
2 Death's mightiest powers have done their worst,
And Jesus hath his foes dispersed;
Let shouts of praise and joy outburst.
Alleluya!
3 On the third morn he rose again
Glorious in majesty to reign;
O let us swell the joyful strain.
Alleluya!
4 He brake the age-bound chains of hell;
The bars from heaven's high portals fell;
Let hymns of praise his triumph tell.
Alleluya!
5 Lord, by the stripes which wounded thee
From death's dread sting thy servants free,
That we may live, and sing to thee.
Alleluya!

media:description>Grimms’ Fairy Tales - The Dog and the Sparrow - read by Daniel Roberts
For the last two centuries, these delightful stories, gathered together and written down by brothers Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, have entertained and frightened children and adults alike. The lives of Tom Thumb, Cinderella, Rumpelstiltskin and the Frog Prince form part of our common heritage: they stimulate the imagination and the heart, and linger in our minds for a lifetime. They are funny, disturbing, wise and compassionate. They speak of joy and terror, happiness and revenge, love and violence.
For Molly and, if God blesses us, for our children, also.

Organ accompaniment with words.
Music: William Ross
Words: Jeanette Holloway
1 Gather around, for the table is spread, welcome the food and rest!
Wide is our circle, with Christ at the head, he is the honoured guest.
Learn of his love, grow in his grace, pray for the peace he gives;
here at this meal, here in this place, know that his spirit lives!
Once he was known in the breaking of bread,
shared with a chosen few;
multitudes gathered and by him were fed, so, will he feed us too.

For ever you will be the Lamb upon the throne;

Recorded in St. Thomas’ Church, Stanhope
5:: Hymn - The Day Thou Gavest - with words - Daniel Roberts | Organist
01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 06.05.2024 · 16:40:24 ··· ··· ··· ··· ··· ··· Hymn - The Day Thou Gavest, Lord, Is Ended
Organ accompaniment with words.
Tune: St Clement by Clement Scholefield 1839-1904
Words: John Ellerton 1826-1893
1 The day thou gavest, Lord, is ended,
The darkness falls at thy behest;
To thee our morning hymns ascended,
Thy praise shall sanctify our rest.
2 We thank thee that thy Church unsleeping,
While earth rolls onward into light,
Through all the world her watch is keeping,
And rests not now by day or night.
3 As o'er each continent and island
The dawn leads on another day,
The voice of prayer is never silent,
Nor dies the strain of praise away.
4 The sun that bids us rest is waking
Our brethren 'neath the western sky,
And hour by hour fresh lips are making
Thy wondrous doings heard on high.
5 So be it, Lord; thy throne shall never,
Like earth's proud empires, pass away;
Thy kingdom stands, and grows for ever,
Till all thy creatures own thy sway.
Daniel Roberts | Organist
Recorded in St. Thomas Church, Stanhope, Durham
6:: Hymn - Abide With Me - with words - Daniel Roberts | Organist
01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 05.05.2024 · 16:50:35 ··· ··· ··· ··· ··· ··· Hymn - Abide With Me
Organ accompaniment with words.
Tune: Evensong by W.H. Monk 1823-1889
Words: H.F. Lyte 1793-1847
1 Abide with me; fast falls the eventide;
The darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide!
When other helpers fail, and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, O abide with me.
2 Swift to its close ebbs out life’s little day:
Earth's joys grow dim, its glories pass away;
Change and decay in all around I see;
O thou who changest not, abide with me.
3 I need thy presence every passing hour;
What but thy grace can foil the tempter's power?
Who like thyself my guide and stay can be?
Through cloud and sunshine, O abide with me.
4 I fear no foe with thee at hand to bless;
Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness.
Where is death's sting? where, grave, thy victory?
I triumph still, if thou abide with me.
5 Hold thou thy cross before my closing eyes;
Shine through the gloom, and point me to the skies:
Heaven's morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee;
In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me!

7:: Hymn - Virgin Born, We Bow Before Thee - with words - Daniel Robert | Organist

Blessèd was the hand that led thee;

8:: Hymn - The Strife is O’er, the Battle Done - with words - Daniel Roberts | Organist
01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 28.04.2024 · 14:32:26 ··· ··· ··· ··· ··· ··· Hymn - The Strife is O’er, the Battle Done
1 The strife is o'er, the battle done;
Now is the Victor's triumph won;
O let the song of praise be sung.
Alleluya!
2 Death's mightiest powers have done their worst,
And Jesus hath his foes dispersed;
Let shouts of praise and joy outburst.
Alleluya!
3 On the third morn he rose again
Glorious in majesty to reign;
O let us swell the joyful strain.
Alleluya!
4 He brake the age-bound chains of hell;
The bars from heaven's high portals fell;
Let hymns of praise his triumph tell.
Alleluya!
5 Lord, by the stripes which wounded thee
From death's dread sting thy servants free,
That we may live, and sing to thee.
Alleluya!

1. Why boastest thou thyself, thou tyrant, that thou canst do mischief;
2. Whereas the goodness of God endureth yet daily?
3. Thy tongue imagineth wickedness, and with lies thou cuttest like a sharp rasor.
4. Thou hast loved unrighteousness more then goodness, and falsehood more than righteousness.
5. Thou hast loved to speak all words that may do hurt, O thou false tongue.
6. Therefore shall God destroy thee for ever; he shall take thee, and pluck thee out of thy dwelling, and root thee out of the land of the living.
7. The righteous also shall see this, and fear, and shall laugh him to scorn:
8. Lo, this is the man that took not God for his strength; but trusted unto the multitude of his riches, and strengthened himself in his wickedness.
9. As for me, I am like a green olive-tree in the house of God; my trust is in the tender mercy of God for ever and ever.
10. I will always give thanks unto thee for that thou hast done; and I will hope in thy Name, for thy saints like it well.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

3. O send out thy light and thy truth, that they may lead me, and bring me unto thy holy hill, and to thy dwelling;
4. And that I may go unto the altar of God, even unto the God of my joy and gladness; and upon the harp will I give thanks unto thee, O God, my God.
5. Why art thou so heavy, O my soul? and why art thou so disquieted within me?
6. O put thy trust in God; for I will yet give him thanks, which is the help of my countenance, and my God.

1. I will magnify thee, O Lord; for thou hast set me up, and not made my foes to triumph over me.
2. O Lord my God, I cried unto thee; and thou hast healed me.
3. Thou, Lord, hast brought my soul out of hell: thou hast kept my life from them that go down to the pit.
4. Sing praises unto the Lord, O ye saints of his; and give thanks unto him for a remembrance of his holiness.
5. For his wrath endureth but the twinkling of an eye, and in his pleasure is life; heaviness may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.
6. And in my prosperity I said, I shall never be removed: thou, Lord, of thy goodness hast made my hill so strong.
7. Thou didst turn thy face from me, and I was troubled.
8. Then cried I unto thee, O Lord; and gat me to my Lord right humbly.
9. What profit is there in my blood, when I go down to the pit?
10. Shall the dust give thanks unto thee? or shall it declare thy truth?
11. Hear, O Lord, and have mercy upon me; Lord, be thou my helper.
12. Thou hast turned my heaviness into joy; thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness:
13. Therefore shall every good man sing of thy praise without ceasing. O my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Tune: Moscow. Adapted from a tune by F. Giardini 1716-1796 in Madan’s Collection 1769
Words: John Marriott 1780-1825
1. Thou whose almighty word
Chaos and darkness heard,
And took their flight;
Hear us, we humbly pray,
And where the gospel day
Sheds not its glorious ray
Let there be light.
2. Thou who didst come to bring
On thy redeeming wing
Healing and sight,
Health to the sick in mind,
Sight to the inly blind,
O now to all mankind
Let there be light.
3. Spirit of truth and love,
Life-giving, holy Dove,
Speed forth thy flight;
Move on the water's face,
Bearing the lamp of grace,
And in earth's darkest place
Let there be light.
4. Blessèd and holy Three,
Glorious Trinity,
Wisdom, Love, Might,
Boundless as ocean's tide
Rolling in fullest pride,
Through the world far and wide
Let there be light.

2. Breathe on me, Breath of God,

Until with thee I will one will,

Tune: Franconia by W.H. Havergal 1793-1870 adapted from a six-line melody in König’s Harmonischer Lieder-Schatz Frankfurt 1738
Words: John Keble 1792-1866 and others
1. Blest are the pure in heart,
For they shall see our God,
The secret of the Lord is theirs,
Their soul is Christ's abode.
2. The Lord, who left the heavens
Our life and peace to bring,
To dwell in lowliness with men,
Their pattern and their King;
3. Still to the lowly soul
He doth himself impart,
And for his dwelling and his throne
Chooseth the pure in heart.

Words: Eleanor Farjeon 1881-1965
1. Morning has broken
Like the first morning,
Blackbird has spoken
Like the first bird.
Praise for the singing,
Praise for the morning,
Praise for them springing
Fresh from the Word.
2. Sweet the rain's new fall
Sunlit from heaven,
Like the first dewfall
On the first grass.
Praise for the sweetness
Of the wet garden,
Sprung in completeness
Where his feet pass.
3. Mine is the sunlight,
Mine is the morning,
Born of the one light
Eden saw play.
Praise with elation,
Praise every morning,

Organ accompaniment with words.
Tune: Exultet Cor - Mode ii
Words: Latin, 15th century. Translated by Percy Dearmer 1867-1936
1. O let the heart beat high with bliss,
Yea, let it triumph at the sound
Of Jesus’ name, so sweet it is,
For every joy therein is found.
2. The name that comforteth in woe,
The name of Jesus healing sin,
The name that curbs the powers below
And drives away the death within:
3. The name that soundeth ever sweet
In speech or verse or holy song,
And bids us run with willing feet,
Consoled, and comforted, and strong.
4. Then let the name of Jesus ring
With lofty praise in every place;
Let heart and voice together sing -
That name shall every ill efface.
5. Ah! Jesus, health of sinful men,
Give ear unto our loving prayer;
Guide thou our wandering feet again,
And hold our doings in thy care.
6. O Jesus, of the Virgin born,
Immortal honour be to thee;
Praise to the Father infinite,
And Holy Ghost eternally. Amen.

1. Ascribe unto the Lord, O ye mighty, ascribe unto the Lord worship and strength.
2. Ascribe unto the Lord the honour due unto his Name; worship the Lord with holy worship.
3. The voice of the Lord is upon the waters; it is the glorious God that maketh the thunder.
4. It is the Lord that ruleth the sea; the voice of the Lord is mighty in operation; the voice of the Lord is a glorious voice.
5. The voice of the Lord breaketh the cedar-trees; yea, the Lord breaketh the cedars of Lebanon.
6. He maketh them also to skip like a calf; Lebanon also, and Sirion, like a young unicorn.
7. The voice of the Lord divideth the flames of fire; the voice of the Lord shaketh the wilderness; yea, the Lord shaketh the wilderness of Kadesh.
8. The voice of the Lord maketh the hinds to bring forth young, and strippeth bare the forests: in his temple doth every man speak of his honour.
9. The Lord sitteth above the water-flood, and the Lord remaineth a King for ever.
10. The Lord shall give strength unto his people; the Lord shall give his people the blessing of peace.

Tune: Angel Voices by E.G. Monk 1819-1900
Words: Francis Pott 1832-1909
1. Angel-voices ever singing
Round thy throne of light,
Angel-harps, for ever ringing,
Rest not day nor night;
Thousands only live to bless thee
And confess thee
Lord of might.
2. Thou who art beyond the farthest
Mortal eye can scan,
Can it be that thou regardest
Songs of sinful man?
Can we know that thou art near us,
And wilt hear us?
Yea, we can.
3. For we know that thou rejoicest
O'er each work of thine;
Thou didst ears and hands and voices
For thy praise design;
Craftsman's art and music's measure
For thy pleasure
All combine.
4. In thy house, great God, we offer
Of thine own to thee;
And for thine acceptance proffer
All unworthily
Hearts and minds and hands and voices
In our choicest
Psalmody.
5. Honour, glory, might and merit
Thine shall ever be,
Father, Son and Holy Spirit,
Blessed Trinity.
Of the best that thou hast given
Earth and heaven
Render thee.

1. Glory to thee, my God, this night
For all the blessings of the light;
Keep me, O keep me, King of kings,
Beneath thy own almighty wings.
2. Forgive me, Lord, for thy dear Son,
The ill that I this day have done,
That with the world, myself and thee,
I, ere I sleep, at peace may be.
3. Teach me to live, that I may dread
The grave as little as my bed;
Teach me to die, that so I may
Rise glorious at the aweful day.
4. O may my soul on thee repose,
And with sweet sleep my eyelids close,
Sleep that may me more vigorous make
To serve my God when I awake.
5. Praise God from whom all blessings flow,
Praise him all creatures here below,
Praise him above, ye heavenly host,

Organ accompaniment with words.
Tune: Aurelia by S.S. Wesley 1810-1876
Words: Samuel Stone 1839-1900
1. The Church's one foundation
Is Jesus Christ, her Lord;
She is his new creation
By water and the word:
From heaven he came and sought her
To be his holy Bride,
With his own blood he bought her,
And for her life he died.
2. Elect from every nation,
Yet one o'er all the earth,
Her charter of salvation
One Lord, one faith, one birth;
One holy name she blesses,
Partakes one holy food,
And to one hope she presses
With every grace endued.
3. Though with a scornful wonder
Men see her sore opprest,
By schisms rent asunder,
By heresies distrest,
Yet saints their watch are keeping,
Their cry goes up, 'How long?'
And soon the night of weeping
Shall be the morn of song.
4. ‘Mid toil, and tribulation,
And tumult of her war,
She waits the consummation
Of peace for evermore;
Till with the vision glorious
Her longing eyes are blest,
And the great Church victorious
Shall be the Church at rest.
5. Yet she on earth hath union
With God the Three in One,
And mystic sweet communion
With those whose rest is won:
O happy ones and holy!
Lord, give us grace that we
Like them, the meek and lowly,
On high may dwell with thee.

Organ accompaniment with words and score.
Tune: St. Denio. Adapted from a Welsh song set to a hymn in John Roberts’s Caniadau y Cyssegre 1839
Words: W. Chalmers Smith 1824-1908
1. Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
In light inaccessible hid from our eyes,
Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,
Almighty, victorious, thy great name we praise.
2. Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light,
Nor wanting, nor wasting, thou rulest in might;
Thy justice, like mountains high soaring above
Thy clouds which are fountains of goodness and love.
3. To all life thou givest—to both great and small;
In all life thou livest, the true life of all;
We blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree,
Then wither and perish—but naught changeth thee.
4. Great Father of glory, pure Father of light,
Thine angels adore thee, all veiling their sight;
All laud we would render; O help us to see
‘Tis only the splendour of light hideth thee.
