I have come to see that one of the main reasons I have found myself partaking of what the world has to offer, is that I get so worn out trying to carry a weight that Christ never laid on me, but His Church so often does; the weight of trying to produce a good life. (Matthew 11:28-30) Christ is the life-giver, not the life demander (John 4:13.14). We were not created to produce a good life, but to partake of His. There is no power in any message that points you to yourself. Never let anyone spike your Gospel. The most subtle deception to the Church of every generation is a zeal for righteousness, but without enough knowledge of God to know, that He is not asking you to produce your own but to partake of His. Christ is the end of producing and the beginning of partaking. (See Romans 10:1-4, Hebrews 5:13) Some of the most attractive ministries in the body of Christ to thirsty believers, are those who elevate the role of the flesh, for it seems reasonable to the earthly minded man, that he would play some starring role in his own salvation. No matter the revival zeal of the preacher, this is not the Spirit that comes from God, but the spirit of the world, for a world that does not know a Saviour, can only teach you to be your own. (1Cor.2:12). If you watch such ministry for long enough, you will notice something. The same people keep having to return again and again for ministry. Why? Before we had done one thing to earn the love of God, He gave to us in Christ everything He had to give, to set us free to love Him for who He is, not for what we can get out of Him. What husband can be content knowing his bride chose him not for who he is, but for where he lived? Only knowing that you are loved much more than you have ever asked or imagined, lets you live much more than you have ever asked or imagined and that is what He always wanted for us; to love as He loves and so live as He lives; freely. Our salvation is to the glory of His grace, not the glory of our record, so that our lives may point to His much more love for us, not our love for Him.

9:: Following Jesus, into Marriage!

··· ··· ··· ··· To fall from partaking of love, to trying to produce love. That’s a long way to fall. Many of us as believers have experienced such a fall and we don’t quite understand how it happened, but we have fallen from being to becoming. We are actually trying to be married, in that we now find ourselves trying to be a Christian and the weight of that attempt to produce a good life for God, is crushing the joy out of us. The spring in us, that once overflowed in thanksgiving, appears to have dried up, for “hope deferred makes the heart sick, only a dream fulfilled is a tree of life.” The answer, is to hear again what the Spirit has always been testifying to our spirits; to hear who we are in God’s eyes; the one He has completely given Himself to in marriage.

10:: Unbinding The Lazarus Church

··· ··· ··· ··· All we do by continually pointing believers to their performance, is leave them more wrapped up in themselves. Lazarus had to be unbound, unwrapped, unveiled, to be able to see and hear and walk freely in his resurrected life and Jesus gave that task to those around him. When the Lord sees so many Christians, those who were resurrected with Him, still bound by the grave clothes of their old self-life, not seeing or hearing or walking freely in their identity as sons of God, is not His Spirit still saying to His Church “Loose them and let them go!"

11:: The Father We Never Knew

··· ··· ··· ··· Which is more life-giving to my children; to keep telling them all their lives they should be more like me, or to keep telling them from the day they are born, that they are like me? Which is more life-giving to a believer/Christian; to keep telling them all their lives that they should be more like God, or to keep telling them that they are born of the Spirit of God, that they are like God, for the same spirit that rose Christ from the dead now lives in them! Jesus was so rooted and grounded in His identity, His life as the beloved Son of God, that He didn’t feel the need to do anything to grasp that life. That’s why the temptations of the world and the devil had no power over Him, for when you know who you are, you don’t need this world or your performance in it, to tell you who you are.

··· ··· ··· ··· As long as we keep thinking of ourselves as mere earthly men and women, trying to behave more like Jesus, then that is how we will live; as mere men, for as a man thinks in his heart, so he is (Prov 23:7) But we live that way to the astonishment of angels and the heavenly realm who all see that God did not become man to improve our behaviour but to change our very being, our very nature, that we could rightly be called children of God. We have been born of His Spirit, born from above that we may think from above.

14:: Whoever drinks this water, will be thirsty again.

··· ··· ··· ··· It is ironic, that many of us in the church are so quick to label people who have left our churches as back-sliders, when from heaven’s perspective, the greatest backslide has always been from partaking to producing and right from the earliest days of the church, you never had to leave the church to become that sort of backslider, just ask the Galatians! (Galatians 5:4). I have come to see that one of the main reasons I have found myself partaking of what the world has to offer, is that I get so worn out trying to carry a weight that Christ never laid on me, but His Church so often does; the weight of trying to produce a good life. (Matthew 11:28-30) Christ is the life-giver, not the life demander (John 4:13.14). We were not created to produce a good life, but to partake of His. There is no power in any message that points you to yourself. Never let anyone spike your Gospel. The most subtle deception to the Church of every generation is a zeal for righteousness, but without enough knowledge of God to know, that He is not asking you to produce your own but to partake of His. Christ is the end of producing and the beginning of partaking. (See Romans 10:1-4, Hebrews 5:13) Some of the most attractive ministries in the body of Christ to thirsty believers, are those who elevate the role of the flesh, for it seems reasonable to the earthly minded man, that he would play some starring role in his own salvation. No matter the revival zeal of the preacher, this is not the Spirit that comes from God, but the spirit of the world, for a world that does not know a Saviour, can only teach you to be your own. (1Cor.2:12). If you watch such ministry for long enough, you will notice something. The same people keep having to return again and again for ministry. Why? Because, if you drink that water, you will be thirsty again!

16:: Breathing In the breath of God

··· ··· ··· ··· When we were infants, there were times when we all just cried our hearts out and there was only one thing that would stop that cry; being picked up by our mother or father and being held firmly but gently over their heart, so that once again we felt that we were one with them and not separated from them. No matter what age you are, you were made to be held that way by God and no matter how many times, or how hard, you embrace this world and all its pleasures, this world will never silence the cry in your heart for the peace of God, the experience of being set at one with Him, that only the reception of His Holy Spirit brings. This world cannot embrace you in the way that Christ did on the Cross, an embrace that is imparted to you by His Holy Spirit, the comforter.

17:: Greater than Heaven.

··· ··· ··· ··· Greater than Heaven, is He who made Heaven. Greater than Heaven one day, is Him today, for it is not the promise of light that dispels the darkness, but the presence of light. This world needs more than the promise of light. It needs the Church to be the light, to live from her being in Christ. The Gospel is news not advice, for only as news does it carry the power to be. Only as news does it carry the voice of He who still speaks light into being, the voice that proclaims what is, not what might be. For all who want a Saviour, you have one. If you want to be your own, there is religion or atheism, but be warned, it’s a miserable life being your own Saviour. The whole world may be asking you to produce a good life, but God is not. That’s because He didn’t design us to produce life, but to partake of life; His.

18:: The life of Christ can never be fathered by the fear of rejection

··· ··· ··· ··· The Holy Spirit doesn’t do 'superficial' because He’s not looking to chalk you up as a convert, He is looking to raise you up as a child of the King. He comes to correct the false picture of the Father we carry, for obedience that is birthed out of a fear of rejection, will never reveal the life of Christ. God never had a plan to save the world through our obedience. His plan was to save the world through His love. Obedience is only pleasing to God, if He; LOVE, is the Father of that obedience and only Christ and Him crucified reveals His love as totally selfless. Why above all things is it so important to see this? Because our lives are the fruit of what we are believing (Proverbs 4:23) and if the God you worship is a God who primarily uses people to achieve His great purposes, then you will see little wrong with using people to achieve yours.

It is just as crazy to try and grow the life of Christ in believers, by planting the seed of the Gospel; the proclamation of Christ as your life, within the confines of a religious/’obedience to Law’/Old Covenant mindset. Religion is too tiny a pot to grow much more than twigs. Oaks of righteousness can’t grow in religious pots. The only thing that grows in a pot called self, is self-righteousness!
