··· ··· 2013-03-04 ··· 2013-03-04 ··· The Love Bug (1969), sometimes referred to as Herbie the Love Bug is the first in a series of comedy films made by Walt Disney Productions that starred an anthropomorphic pearl-white, fabric-sunroofed 1963 Volkswagen racing Beetle named Herbie. It was based on the 1961 book Car, Boy, Girl by Gordon Buford. The movie follows the adventures of Herbie, Herbie's driver Jim Douglas (Dean Jones), and Jim's love interest, Carole Bennett (Michele Lee). It also features Buddy Hackett as Jim's enlightened, kind-hearted friend, Tennessee Steinmetz, a character who creates "art" from used car parts. English actor David Tomlinson portrays the villainous Peter Thorndyke, owner of an auto showroom and a SCCA national champion who sells Herbie to Jim and eventually becomes Jim's racing rival. George Bruns and some of his great score for the classic movie The Love Bug.

Daytona International Speedway President Joie Chitwood said the track will "be ready to go racing" in time for Sunday's Daytona 500. The green flag will drop a day after a horrific accident injured fans and drivers, and damaged several safety features. At least 30 spectators were injured Saturday when large chunks of debris, including a tire, sailed into the grandstands when a car flew into the fence on a frightening last-lap accident in the second-tier Nationwide Series race.

··· ··· ··· ··· San Juan County Sheriff's Office On the evening of May 12, 2007 San Juan County Sheriff's Deputies, New Mexico State Police, and the Bloomfield Police Department were involved in a high speed pursuit that ended in gun fire. The pursuit began when Bloomfield Police Officers were dispatched to a fight in the City of Bloomfield. When they arrived suspects fled in a vehicle and fired at the officers. A pursuit followed. The pursuit went into San Juan County and then onto the Navajo Reservation where deputies successfully executed a pit maneuver stopping the suspect vehicle. Immediately upon stopping the driver of the vehicle began shooting at Sgt. Kory Faulk. Deputies returned fire and the suspect was hit numerous times. Sgt. Faulk was shot in the face. Both Sgt. Faulk and the suspect have since been released from the hospital. The suspect is in jail and Sgt. Faulk has returned to full duty. Numerous media requests have been made for a copy of the in-car camera video. The Federal Bureau of Investigations is conducting an investigation into the portion of the incident that occurred on the Navajo Reservation. At the request of the United States Attorney's Office the shooting and all other events that happened on the reservation are not being released until a later date. Attached you will find video from the initial Sherfiff's pursuit vehicle. While watching the video you will see one of the people in the suspects vehicle jump out of the car at a fast speed. In addition, you will see people in the vehicle shooting at the pursuing deputy. The video stops when the pursuit enters the Navajo Reservation. We will release the entire video as soon as the United States Attorney's Office informs us that doing so will not intrfer with their efforts to adjudicate the case.

··· ··· ··· ··· During a high-speed chase, alleged bank robbers threw handfuls of money out their vehicle's window, before police caught two armed suspects in front of several hundred bystanders on Wednesday. The high-speed pursuit through Los Angeles County began after four men robbed a Bank of America about 10 a.m. in the Canyon County section of Santa Clarita. Throughout the chase, the suspects tossed money out the vehicle's back window more than a dozen times. TV helicopters trailed the suspects and recorded this unusual act. It appeared that the suspects intended to lure people into the street to block the pursuing police cars, said Andrew Smith, a Police Department spokesman. "A lot of people came out their houses, they saw this on TV, they saw that money was being thrown," Smith told NBC 4. The chase screeched to a halt when traffic blocked the suspects about 80 minutes into the chase in South Los Angeles, reported NBC 7. A pickup truck emerged from a side street and blocked their path. It is unknown if the driver did this intentionally to thwart the suspects, reports The Associated Press. Officers arrested the suspects before a large crowd of several hundred people — a dangerous moment for the spectators because the suspects were armed. No injured have been reported concerning the robbery. One officer's foot was run over during the incident but he is expected to recover. Authorities are still searching for two men who escaped from the black Volvo SUV, while it was on the 210 Freeway in the San Fernando Valley, according to Capt. Mike Parker. 12/09/2012

And for those that are curious, the Atlanta Police Department has strict policies against ramming, rolling roadblocks and PIT manuvers. Policy was even violated when the unit pulled up along side the violator. The decision to violate policy was made strictly for public safety. He was NOT going to get back on the interstate. Even if meant a suspention.

··· ··· ··· ··· A Spartanburg, S.C., man on Wednesday received 16 years in state prison after admitting he led a state trooper on a high-speed chase, fired shots at the officer and threw computer equipment out of his vehicle on Oct. 13, 2008. Christopher Adam Tessigner, 27, pleaded guilty to assault with intent to kill, failure to stop for a blue light, possession of methamphetamine and possession of Lortab charges that stemmed from the incident. Remarkably, no one was injured during the chase, despite many close calls. The chase lasted several minutes, originating on Highway 9 and Fourth Street in Boiling Springs, S.C.. Tessigner eluded the trooper by running a red light, but authorities soon found the car, the car's passenger and Tessigner in a field near Cedar Crest Road and Granite Park Lane.
