The first one had a spruce top now we ordered a cedar top. The Prestige model is so far the highest model produced by Hideo. Compared to his standard model, the woods are Master grade to achieve the best sound results. The guitar is a traditional braced guitar but which is not that much traditional (the bracing is a pure invention from the Sato Family) and to us the sound is much closer in volume to a double-top or a lattice guitar. It is a lattice guitar but very light with an amazing craftmanship made by David Pelter UK. Here is a short description of the guitar by David: '"The type I build I use is more of the European style than the Australian style. My lattices are all wood and there are no carbon reinforcement strips. I adopt a traditional back rather than the carved type and thin it so the back becomes an active part. My sides generally are doubled to reduce the loss of energy away from the two vibrating plates....top and back. My internal tone bar just south of the sound hole is open i.e raised above the extended lattice on the bass side only. All in all, my style of building is designed to capture the majority additional volume from this style of building but retaining a warmer european sound rather than pushing the boundaries of the DT/lattice and getting highest volume but ending up with a thinner more brittle sound. The first one had a spruce top now we ordered a cedar top. The Prestige model is so far the highest model produced by Hideo. Compared to his standard model, the woods are Master grade to achieve the best sound results. The guitar is a traditional braced guitar but which is not that much traditional (the bracing is a pure invention from the Sato Family) and to us the sound is much closer in volume to a double-top or a lattice guitar. The tone colors are thus very traditional but with huge dynamics. The sound is very close from the one of Kazuo Sato (his father) but with a little bit more dynamic. It is a dream guitar! It is a lattice guitar but very light with an amazing craftmanship made by David Pelter UK. Here is a short description of the guitar by David: '"The type I build I use is more of the European style than the Australian style. My lattices are all wood and there are no carbon reinforcement strips. I adopt a traditional back rather than the carved type and thin it so the back becomes an active part. My sides generally are doubled to reduce the loss of energy away from the two vibrating plates....top and back. My internal tone bar just south of the sound hole is open i.e raised above the extended lattice on the bass side only. All in all, my style of building is designed to capture the majority additional volume from this style of building but retaining a warmer european sound rather than pushing the boundaries of the DT/lattice and getting highest volume but ending up with a thinner more brittle sound. But that is not the important thing: what is amazing is the sound quality. The tone is traditional but with the DT dynamic. The playability is fabulous! This one has a spruce outside top which brings some brightness. Vasilis DT is slightly heavier than the usual German DT, which is due the back and sides which are double. Whereas some DT tends to be too boomy with a short sustain. Vasilis DT is closer to a traditional guitar with a great balance between projection and sustains and most importantly very thick warm notes. The response is very close to a traditional guitar.
