Secret Garden is an Irish-Norwegian duo playing new instrumental music, also sometimes erroneously known as neo-classical music. Secret Garden features the Irish violinist Fionnuala Sherry and the Norwegian composer-pianist Rolf Løvland.
The duo has sold over 3 million albums and won the Eurovision Song Contest for Norway's second time in 1995, with the composition "Nocturne". It was the only time to date that a predominantly instrumental piece has won the Eurovision Song Contest, although a few Norwegian lyrics, written by screenwriter Petter Skavlan, were included to ensure that the entry adhered to the contest's rules. Norwegian singer Gunnhild Tvinnereim sang the song in the Eurovision Song Contest and Swedish nyckelharpist Åsa Jinder also guested on the occasion, although neither is a regular member of the group. Ten years earlier, Rolf Løvland also co-wrote the song "La det swinge" (Let it swing) that secured Norway its first Eurovision Song Contest victory in 1985.Their success at Eurovision spearheaded the success of their first album Songs from a Secret Garden. It sold a million copies around the world going platinum in Norway and Korea, gold in Ireland, Hong Kong and New Zealand and spending two years in the Billboard new-age charts in 1996 and 1997. Stavros Lantsias was born in Nicosia-Cyprus in 1966. He studied classical piano and music theory continuing his studies at Berklee College Of Music where he graduated in 1990. He there received the "Count Basie Jazz Masters Award for pianists 1989" and the "Quincy Jones Jazz Masters Award for arrangers 1990". After Berklee he continued his jazz piano studies with jazz "guru" Charlie Banacos.
Stavros Lantsias is in high demand as a pianist and arranger, always active performing with some of Greece's most respected and acclaimed artists.
One of his most important projects is "Human Touch", a group he has formed with long time collaborators David Lynch and Yiotis Kiourtsoglou. In their two studio recordings, "Human Touch" (LYRA 1998) and «Movin'» (LIBRA 2004), apart from composing and playing the piano Stavros expanded his playing with Drums, Percussion and Acoustic Guitar. Stavros Lantsias was born in Nicosia-Cyprus in 1966. He studied classical piano and music theory continuing his studies at Berklee College Of Music where he graduated in 1990. He there received the "Count Basie Jazz Masters Award for pianists 1989" and the "Quincy Jones Jazz Masters Award for arrangers 1990". In 1976 he studied Law at the university of Athens and at the same time he participated to the following theatrical performances as a composer; "Oedipus Rex", "Fausta" "We and the Time", "The Vegera".
His first compositions, as a professional composer, included works for piano, violin and piano, a symphonic suite for ballet, "Theatrical Trio" for piano, cello and violin, studies for classical guitar, savartoura for BBC 40 years after war, electronic meta-symphonic suite. In 1981 he released an album called "Landscapes" (progressive kind of music).
In 1985 he released a cycle of songs called "Time of Growing". He brought with him his long-time friend Peter Stålfors to play bass. Veteran drummer Snowy Shaw was offered a place in the band, but declined. He agreed, however, to play drums on the upcoming debut album as a session player.
Originally the band were to be called DragonSlayer, in keeping with the lyrics they had written so far, but Century Media disapproved (probably because of the army of Metal bands with "Dragon" as their name's prefix). Early on he studied classical guitar. He went through a pop music phase, but then continued classical studies at the Würzburg State Conservatory with Bertold Hummel and later in Athens with Konstantinos Kydoniatis. Later on he took up Byzantine music.He was born in Athens, Greece. At a very early age, music became the most important part of his life. As a child, he first studied Classical Music (guitar and theory) with professor Haralampos Ekmektsoglou. Then, as a teenager in the 1960s and the 1970s, he played bass guitar and keyboards in a number of bands in Athens, Paris and finally, London, where he lived for a number of years and recorded his first albums.
After that, Classical music won him over again, so he decided to return to his studies of composition, at first in Wurzburg, Germany, with professor Bertold Hummel and then back in Athens with professor Konstantinos Kydoniatis.
He was then attracted to his third love - Byzantine Music, which led him to Greek songwriting and instrumental music.
Since then he has been consciously trying to reconcile his three musical influences (Rock, Classical and Byzantine), in his music.

and was called "Gate through the past". It was highly praised by metal fanzines and Underground Symphony, a label based in Novi ligure; during that time, the band changed its line-up as well (Syl joined as the bass-player, Federico as the Solo guitar). In April 2000, they signed a contract with Underground Symphony; Later, in November, they started the recordings of their first album "Gate through the past", at the Zenith Studios in Lucca. After that, the Finnvox Studios took care of the mastering in 2001. In 2002, Holy Knights recorded two covers from Sword and Heavy Load; these covers would be part of two metal compilations.While working at their second album, Simone Campione joined as the rhythm/solo guitar, and the album turned out to be a concept album. Also, the singer and the bassist builded their own studio, Raven Studios, to take properly care of it. Eventually, the band took a pause that lasted for 10 years, to focus on different side-projects, like Thy Majestie, Trinakrius and CrimsonWind. After that, they get back together in 2010 and decide to finish the second album, having gained more ideas and confidence about what they wanted to do. A more powerful, fast album, with wonderful orchestrations; an explosion of symphonic metal and atmosphere! In april 2012, the album is ready to go out in Japan, under the label Rubicon Music Japan, and soon for the rest of the world as well.
