2:: 1930's Westclox Alarm Clock Model 61D 402 Dura Case pinion repair
01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 23.12.2023 · 15:40:25 ··· ··· ··· ··· ··· ··· This nice 1930's Westclox alarm clock, aside from needing general cleaning and maintenance, had an issue with the hour hand not moving. The common cause of this is a cracked pinion which is slipping on the minute hand shaft. It is possible to repair these with solder since it is a brass part. I replaced this pinion with one from a parts movement and still had to use a very fine 3 square (triangular) file to smooth each tooth. Very tedious but successful.

Here you can see a nice closeup of the balance wheel, hairspring, pallet fork, and the escape wheel.
The Escapement of a clock is the means by which the energy stored in the clocks mainspring is slowly released in a regulated way and thereby moving the clock hands accordingly. Electric clocks, by their nature, do not use escapements.

This is one interesting example where things are not as they may appear. Namely, the higher wattage TW transformer is great for powering a load of accessories, however, it is NOT the best when it comes to powering trains that draw high current.
Here I reveal the reasons for this.

As you will seen it is as basic as it gets - two motors and an E-unit! It is equipped with Magnetraction so it is a fairly good puller.

23:: O Gauge Fairbanks Morse Trainmaster Diesel by Custom Trains or Williams ? A Model Railroad treasure!

The person who sold it listed it as a Williams, however, it is almost identical to another engine I have made by Custom Trains. In fact, the box is 100% identical. But this one has absolutely NO markings on the engine itself. The box has this engine numbered as SA1007. The motors are different but almost everything else is identical to my Custom Trains engine including the sound of the horn.
So here is a quick overview of another great and very attractive classic Diesel locomotive!
