media:description>A meaningful visit to the doctor leads to an emotional reunion… in two languages.
When we asked Chief of Pain Medicine David Copenhaver to read a thank-you letter on camera, he had no idea the grateful patient who wrote it was watching and waiting.
In her letter, Clara Sutton wrote how affirming it was to be heard and believed by her doctor in both English and her native Spanish. #RepresentationMatters
Their relationship is a testament to Dr. Copenhaver’s care. We believe in delivering tomorrow’s health care today, with kindness, trust, and inclusion. At UC Davis Health, we #BelieveinBetter./media:description>

Four employees at UC Davis Health were recently asked to read thank-you letters in front of a camera. What they didn’t know is that the heartfelt messages were for them -- and they were about to be surprised by the letter writers in person. Watch as they open their letters on camera, and the emotional surprises that follow.

media:description>A person in Texas is being treated for avian influenza (bird flu), according to a report from state officials. The deadly virus has sickened dairy cows in five states in recent weeks. This marks the first known instance globally of a person catching the H5N1 strain of bird flu from a mammal and just the second human case of the illness in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). An individual who had contact with infected poultry caught the virus in 2022.
Dean Blumberg, chief of pediatric infectious diseases at UC Davis Health, answers questions about what you need to know about bird flu.

media:description>A new study from UC Davis Health, published in JAMA Neurology, found the surface of the brain is almost 15% larger for people born in the 1970s, compared to the 1930s. Researchers believe this could be good news for America's aging population. Larger brain structures reflect improved brain development and brain health. This might help defend against diseases like Alzheimer's later in life.

UC Davis Health physicians and pharmacists discuss the different treatment and medication options for light chain amyloidosis and transthyretin amyloidosis. These include tafamidis (ATTR stabilizer) and fibril disruptors (doxycycline, taurodeoxycholic acid, green tea extract).

media:description>115 UC Davis medical students — and tens of thousands from across the country — celebrated "Match Day" as they simultaneously learned where they’ll attend residency training after graduation this spring. Nearly a quarter of the matched students, 24%, will stay at UC Davis School of Medicine. Many of them will train in the medical center and some will be assigned to Federally Qualified Health Centers, where they’ll care for underserved patients. A total of 81% will remain in California, and 54% will train in primary care, such as internal medicine and family medicine. These are specialty areas that are in short supply in places like Sacramento and throughout the Central Valley.
Residency is an intensive training program that lasts anywhere from three to seven years, depending on the medical specialty. It’s a necessary step on the path to becoming a board-certified physician and Match Day is an unforgettable part of the long journey.

media:description>Robotic neurosurgery provides superior care when people experience stroke, essential tremor, spinal injuries, cancer and more. UC Davis Health provides robotic surgery for cranial, spine, and endovascular procedures. Robot-assisted surgery is minimally invasive, enhancing patient and medical staff safety during procedures while promoting faster, better patient recovery. Surgical robots are often used across specialties and thus further drive interdisciplinary clinical care, research, and education. For example, the endovascular robot acquisition and surgical services are a joint venture of Neurological Surgery and Radiology and the spine robot supports the UC Davis Comprehensive Spine Program, led by Neurological Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, and Pain Management.
Dr. Kia Shahlaie, Professor and Interim Chair of Neurological Surgery at UC Davis Health, is joined by Dr. Ben Waldau, Professor and Co-Director of the UC Stroke Consortium Robotics Workgroup, and Dr. Kee Kim, Professor and Chief of Spinal Neurosurgery and Co-Director of the UC Davis Spine Center in an overview of the UC Davis robotic neurosurgery program, the first comprehensive program in the region.

12:: Match Day 2024 - UC Davis School of Medicine
01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 15.03.2024 · 21:12:56 ··· ··· ··· ··· ··· ··· 115 UC Davis medical students — and tens of thousands from across the country — celebrated "Match Day" as they simultaneously learned where they’ll attend residency training after graduation this spring.

15:: Robotic Neurosurgery at UC Davis Health — The First Comprehensive Program in the Region
01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 11.03.2024 · 23:35:58 ··· ··· ··· ··· ··· ··· Robotic neurosurgery provides superior care when people experience stroke, essential tremor, spinal injuries, cancer and more.
