"Elephants Dream" is the world's first open movie, made entirely with open source graphics software such as Blender, and with all production files freely available to use however you please, under a Creative Commons license. The short film was created by the Orange Open Movie Project studio in Amsterdam, bringing together a diverse team of artists and developers from all over the world.
"Elephants Dream" is the story of two strange characters exploring a capricious and seemingly infinite machine. The elder, Proog, acts as a tour-guide and protector, happily showing off the sights and dangers of the machine to his initially curious but increasingly skeptical protege Emo. As their journey unfolds we discover signs that the machine is not all Proog thinks it is, and his guiding takes on a more desperate aspect.
"Elephants Dream" is a story about communication and fiction, made purposefully open-ended as the world's first 3D animated "Open movie". The film itself is released under the Creative Commons license, along with the entirety of the production files used to make it (roughly 7 Gigabytes of data). The software used to make the movie is the free/open source animation suite Blender along with other open source software, thus allowing the movie to be remade, remixed and re-purposed with only a computer and the data on the DVD or download.
"Elephants Dream" is the result of almost a year of work, a project initiated and coordinated by the Blender Foundation. Six people from the Blender user/development community were selected to come over to Amsterdam to work together on an animated short movie, utilizing Open Source tools only.
With Blender originating as an in-house creation tool, the day-to-day feedback and interaction of both developing and using the software was one of its most outstanding features.
In the past 2.5 years of open source development, it was especially this uniqueness of Blender that has proven to be difficult to organize and maintain. The Blender Foundation itself has no intention to grow or expand into a company or studio; such a development would conflict with the public benefit goals. Instead, the Foundation aims at endorsing and supporting activities within (educational) institutes, universities and companies.
It is our conviction that establishing - content targeted - incidental, independent and temporal projects will be a strong boost for open source development strategies in general. Daily interaction of artists and developers can not only result in proof of concepts, but also in research of innovative solutions for the whole range of tools artists can deploy.
By keeping such projects content focused and temporal, it also is possible for a wide range of currently active volunteers to participate. Not many people are in a position to give up a career (study, job) to become full-time employed on the projects of their interest. But there are many active volunteers prepared and motivated to do this incidentally for shorter time spans.
Whilst Project Orange's prime target is to create an outstanding movie short, the secondary goal is to research efficient ways to increase quality of Open Source projects in general.

Popeye the Sailor is an American animated series of comedy short films based on the Popeye comic strip character created by E. C. Segar. In 1933, Max and Dave Fleischer's Fleischer Studios adapted Segar's characters into a series of Popeye the Sailor theatrical cartoon shorts for Paramount Pictures. The plotlines in the animated cartoons tended to be simpler than those presented in the comic strips, and the characters slightly different. A villain, usually Bluto, makes a move on Popeye's "sweetie," Olive Oyl. The villain clobbers Popeye until he eats spinach, giving him superhuman strength. Thus empowered, Popeye the sailor makes short work of the villain.

Project Peach, the second Open Movie, started in October 2007 and premiered April 2008. Target this time was to create good hair/fur editing and rendering, more advanced support for cartoonish characters, and solve complexity in rendering outdoors environments with grass, trees and leaves.
Big Buck Bunny was the first project in the Blender Institute Amsterdam. This 10 minute movie has been made inspired by the best cartoon tradition. A giant rabbit finds his happy sunny morning walk being disturbed by three rascal rodents. In a comical grand finale he gets even with them.

Popeye the Sailor Meets Ali Baba's Forty Thieves is Popeye's 54th cartoon and the second of the three Popeye Color Specials.
A two-reel cartoon short, it was produced in Technicolor and released to theaters on November 26, 1937 by Paramount Pictures. It was produced by Max Fleischer for Fleischer Studios, Inc. and directed by Dave Fleischer. Williard Bowsky was head animator, with musical supervision by Sammy Timberg. The voice of Popeye is performed by Jack Mercer, with Mae Questel as Olive Oyl and Gus Wickie as Abu Hassan (who closely resembles Bluto, the nemesis of Popeye). It should also be noted that Popeye here appears to have enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard, having yet to enlist in the Navy, as he would in the 1941 Fleischer short The Mighty Navy.
Popeye the Sailor, accompanied by Olive Oyl and Wimpy, is dispatched to stop the dreaded bandit Abu Hassan and his force of forty thieves.

Famous Studios' 1950 entry Popeye Makes a Movie is mostly made up of reused footage from this cartoon, along with some new animation. A shorter sample was also included in 1944's Spinach Packin' Popeye.
Due to the stereotypical nature of Abu Hassan and the fact that he could be seen as Bluto masquerading in a form of brownface, the cartoon has been banned from broadcast syndication. However, the uncut cartoon can be found intact on home video.

Popeye and Bluto are, believe it or not, pals and partners in a moving company. (Maybe it's because Popeye isn't squinting here.) Anyhow, Olive has made the mistake of hiring them. She hasn't finished packing yet, so the boys, smitten as soon as she answers the door, compete to help her. Once packed, they compete to move more impressive piles of her belongings. Popeye easily wins these contests, even though Bluto locks him in the van at one point. At the end, Bluto socks Popeye into the piano, then into a table; though he hardly seems to need it, Popeye still eats his spinach, then thrashes Bluto.

A Haul in One is the color remake of Fleischer Studios' Let's Get Movin (1936), released by Famous Studios in 1956 as the 225th Popeye cartoon.
Plot
With Popeye & Bluto Movers on their way to her apartment, Olive has not yet finished packing. When the two partners arrive, they offer to help her as they begin to compete for her attention. With Popeye displaying greater packing skills and speed, Bluto turns his efforts to folding, but is again outdone by Popeye with the help of a vacuum cleaner. Bluto tries putting on a show of strength, but his rival demonstrates he can carry him and more. After trying unsuccesfully to get rid of the competition, the big fellow is angered to see Popeye return to action. He begins tossing Olive's belongings out the window, leaving Popeye to catch them, which he does quite effortlessly. Finally, Bluto resorts to attacking his "buddy", trapping his neck in a folding table. Popeye promptly eats his spinach and punches Bluto into woman's clothing, then ties him to the back of the van as he invites Olive to ride with him in the front.

Plot
Mrs. Duck longs to have a baby and wants to "hatch a batch," so she swallows an entire bottle of vitamins and presto, out pops a huge and clumsy Baby Huey! We first get to see him naked, then Mrs. Duck dresses him in a brown diaper. The giant infant, unaware of his own super strength, causes a lot of trouble, and the other ducks wants to chase Huey away. Later, a hungry fox shows up. Huey wants to play with him and unknowingly saves the day.

Molly, the farm ducks and all are heading west in a wagon train. Along the way, the busybody ducks happen on an Indian camp, and they and Molly play around. When the papoose of the Indian mom falls into the river, Molly comes to the rescue. The ducks, being silly about who will dive in after the babe, soon find themselves captured by the Indian hunter for dinner, with Molly again to the rescue, and of course, the mom of the rescued babe. Molly saves the Indian woman from the abusive brave. She also saves the papoose from drowning, and the ducks from the brave. In the end, Molly and the ducks do continue on westward.
