1 A mighty fortress is our God,
a bulwark never failing;
our helper he, amid the flood
of mortal ills prevailing.
For still our ancient foe
does seek to work us woe;
his craft and power are great,
and armed with cruel hate,
on earth is not his equal.
2 Did we in our own strength confide,

were not the right Man on our side,

It reminds of how my Gran would look into the skies and say “is today the day, Lord?” But the song reminds us too that while we wait for Him, we must be faithful and tell of his love. I decided to give it a "schmaltzy" feel to fit the wistfulness of the lyrics - although I know, traditionally, it's a bit more triumphant.

01.01.1970 01:00:00 07.06.2023 03:45:02 Song 7 in the Church of the Nazarene's 1914 hymnal 'Canaan Melodies' was probably used during altar calls in the early days. It is a call to turn to God because time is short! Lovely song and one that is still fitting for us today.
I also tweaked the words slightly. Instead of "night that may last for aye", I have "Jesus will always stay". And instead of "Come ere the day of salvation is gone" I have "come for the day of salvation is here". Rolled off the tongue a little easier!
