The tenor Alessandro Fantini performs "Nessun dorma" ("Let no one sleep"), a famous romanza from Giacomo Puccini's Turandot, considered one of the greatest romances in the history of music. It is sung by the Calaf (the "Unknown Prince") at the beginning of the third act when, immersed in the night of Peking, in total solitude, he awaits the dawn, the moment in which he will finally be able to win the love of Turandot, the princess of ice. Calaf fell in love at first sight with the beautiful but cold Princess Turandot. However, any man who wishes to wed Turandot must first answer her three riddles; if he fails, he will be beheaded. Calaf has already correctly answered the three riddles posed by Turandot. However, she recoils at the thought of her marriage to him and Calaf offers her a chance: the challenge to guess his name by dawn. In the aria, Calaf expresses his triumphant assurance that he will win the princess. Aria is in the key of G major. The vocal range extends from D3 to B4. Giovanni Velluti at the piano.
