Gezogen von der Dampflok 38 2267 dreht der Museumszug des Eisenbahnmuseums Bochum-Dahlhausen seine Runden. In stilechten Waggons der 50er Jahre geht es am Samstag und Sonntag (15./16. Juni 2024) jeweils zweimal vom Solinger Hauptbahnhof über die Müngstener Brücke, Remscheid und Wuppertal wieder zurück zum Startpunkt.
Für eingefleischte Brückenfest-Fans ist die Bochumer Dampflok eine alte Bekannte: Schon bei etlichen früheren Brückenfesten drehte die 1918 gebaute Lok der legendären preußischen Baureihe P8 emsig ihre Runden./media:description>

When you arrive in Beyenburg it’s hard to believe that you are still in the city. It’s so green and quiet here. And yet, impressive testimonies to the past lie in store.
It used to be much louder and livelier here as Beyenburg was a regular stop on one of the most important trade routes to and from Cologne and the Way of St James pilgrimage route. Local trade and the hospitality industry flourished as a result. Merchants found accommodation in the village and pilgrims stayed at the Steinhaus monastery.
The trade routes changed over the centuries and Beyenburg's importance dwindled. What has remained, however, is the enchanting countryside around the Beyenburg reservoir, beautiful half-timbered houses, the Beyenburg monastery and the important 14th century St Mary Magdalene cloister church. It is one of the finest examples of late Gothic architecture in the region and is affectionately known as “Beyenburg Cathedral”./media:description>

Gezogen von der Dampflok 38 2267 dreht der Museumszug des Eisenbahnmuseums Bochum-Dahlhausen seine Runden. In stilechten Waggons der 50er Jahre geht es am Samstag und Sonntag (15./16. Juni 2024) jeweils zweimal vom Solinger Hauptbahnhof über die Müngstener Brücke, Remscheid und Wuppertal wieder zurück zum Startpunkt.
Für eingefleischte Brückenfest-Fans ist die Bochumer Dampflok eine alte Bekannte: Schon bei etlichen früheren Brückenfesten drehte die 1918 gebaute Lok der legendären preußischen Baureihe P8 emsig ihre Runden.

When you arrive in Beyenburg it’s hard to believe that you are still in the city. It’s so green and quiet here. And yet, impressive testimonies to the past lie in store.
It used to be much louder and livelier here as Beyenburg was a regular stop on one of the most important trade routes to and from Cologne and the Way of St James pilgrimage route. Local trade and the hospitality industry flourished as a result. Merchants found accommodation in the village and pilgrims stayed at the Steinhaus monastery.
The trade routes changed over the centuries and Beyenburg's importance dwindled. What has remained, however, is the enchanting countryside around the Beyenburg reservoir, beautiful half-timbered houses, the Beyenburg monastery and the important 14th century St Mary Magdalene cloister church. It is one of the finest examples of late Gothic architecture in the region and is affectionately known as “Beyenburg Cathedral”.

Das Adolf Clarenbach Denkmal wurde errichtet im Gedenken an einen der ersten protestantischen Märtyrer. Adolf Clarenbach wurde um 1495 auf dem Buscherhof geboren, getauft in Lüttringhausen, und ging in Lennep zur Schule. An verschiedenen Orten war er Lehrer für Griechisch und Latein. In Münster lernte er die Schriften von Martin Luther kennen. Im Sommer 1527 hielt er auf dem Buscherhof und in Elberfeld Bibelstunden im Geist der Reformation. Bei einem Besuch in Köln verhaftete man ihn deswegen, machte ihm den Prozess und verbrannte ihn 1529 wegen Ketzerei. Dieses Denkmal wurde anlässlich seines 300. Todestages errichtet. Adolf Clarenbach und sein gewaltsamer Tod wurden zur Keimzelle der reformatorischen Bewegung in Lüttringhausen, Lennep und Teilen des Bergischen Landes.
The Adolf Clarenbach monument was built in memory of one of the first Protestant martyrs. Adolf Clarenbach was born around 1495 at Buscherhof, baptized in Lüttringhausen, and went to school in Lennep. He taught Greek and Latin at several locations. In Münster he came across Martin Luther's publications. During the summer of 1527 he led Bible study groups at Buscherhof and in Elberfeld, spreading the ideas of the reformation. During a visit to the city of Cologne this led to his arrest. Accused of heresy he was burned at the stake in 1529. This monument was erected during the 300-year anniversary of Adolf Clarenbach's violent death, which had initiated the reformation movement across Lüttringhausen, Lennep and other parts of the Bergisches Land area.

In unserer Stadt leben Menschen unterschiedlicher Herkunft aus über 120 Nationen friedlich zusammen – als Nachbarinnen und Nachbarn, als Kolleginnen und Kollegen, als Freundinnen und Freunde, als Familie. Das ist die Lebensrealität in unserer Stadtgesellschaft. Das macht Remscheid aus.
Zu unserer Stadt gehören alle Menschen, die hier leben. Wir akzeptieren nicht, dass Bürgerinnen und Bürger, dass Familien, dass sogar Kinder Angst davor haben müssen, von hier vertrieben zu werden.
Unterschiedliche Meinungen, unterschiedliche Bewertungen politischer Themen, auch unterschiedliche Positionen zur Migrations- und Asylpolitik sind Teil unserer Demokratie. Demokratie braucht Auseinandersetzung, Demokratinnen und Demokraten müssen auch Streit aushalten und Widerspruch tolerieren. Was wir nicht akzeptieren, ist, wenn der Kern unserer Verfassung und die Basis unseres Zusammenlebens angegriffen werden: die Würde des Menschen.
Menschenwürde, Demokratie und Rechtsstaat müssen immer wieder neu verteidigt werden. Eine wehrhafte Demokratie lebt von einer aktiven und wachsamen Zivilgesellschaft vor Ort. Wir bekennen gemeinsam Farbe für Demokratie und Menschenwürde und senden ein klares Signal der Solidarität und gegen die Spaltung der Stadtgesellschaft.

Die Mauern von Schloss Burg erzählen viele Geschichten - über Menschen und Macht, über Kultur und Kriege, über Grafen und Geistliche. Die Grafen von Berg residierten hier nach Baubeginn um 1130 mehrere hundert Jahre und vergrößerten stetig ihren Einflussbereich. Ihre Nachfolger herrschten Ende des 15. Jh. über große Teile des heutigen Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen (NRW). Später velegten sie ihren Sitz nach Düssseldorf. Schloss Burg verlor an Bedeutung und die Anlage verfiel. Damit beginnt die zweite große Geschichte. Initiert und finanziert von Bürgern des Bergischen Landes wurde das Schloss wieder aufgebaut. Sie gründeten den Verein zur Erhaltung der Schlossruine, dem es schließlich gelang, den Aufbau mit Hilfe von Spenden 1919 weitesgehend zum Abluss zu bringen. Noch heute ist Schloss Burg Wahrzeichen der Region.
The walls of Schloss Burg tell many stories - of people and power, of culture and combat, of earls and ecclestical men. The Earls of Berg resided here when the castle was first built in 1130 and over the course of the centuries they constantly heightened their sphere of influence. By the end of the 15th century their sucessors ruled large parts of present day North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW). Later they moved their residency to Düsseldorf and Schloss Burg became less significant. Subsequently the castle grounds fell into disrepair. And this is where the second interesting story begins. Citizens of the local area - the Bergisches Land - initiated and financed the rebuilding of the castle. They founded the Association for the Conservation of the Castle Ruins. With the aid of donations they were able to complete the rebuilding of the castle to a large extent by 1919 . Schloss Burg remains to be a landmark of the region up to this day.
