Swiss classical and romantic composers still lead a shadowy existence, even in Switzerland. This is precisely where the Swiss Orchestra, founded in 2018, comes in: it wants to bring forgotten Swiss symphonists back onto the concert stage and onto recordings and thus into the consciousness of music lovers. This double CD contains works from the orchestra's concert programmes from recent years./media:description> media:community> media:starRating count="3" average="5.00" min="1" max="5"/> media:statistics views="250"/> /media:community> /media:group> /entry> entry> id>yt:video:nTHzkKwI3hk/id> yt:videoId>nTHzkKwI3hk/yt:videoId> yt:channelId>UCIho7P7bGTITL25wPwMa3bQ/yt:channelId> title>Daniel Gortler plays Edvard Grieg: Lyric Pieces/title> link rel="alternate" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nTHzkKwI3hk"/> author> name>Prospero Classical/name> uri>https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIho7P7bGTITL25wPwMa3bQ/uri> /author> published>2024-01-24T08:30:14+00:00/published> updated>2024-03-14T09:04:19+00:00/updated> media:group> media:title>Daniel Gortler plays Edvard Grieg: Lyric Pieces/media:title> media:content url="https://www.youtube.com/v/nTHzkKwI3hk?version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="640" height="390"/> media:thumbnail url="https://i3.ytimg.com/vi/nTHzkKwI3hk/hqdefault.jpg" width="480" height="360"/> media:description>With his "Lyric Pieces", Edvard Grieg kept a kind of poetic piano diary: between 1867 and 1901, he composed 66 short character pieces, which were published in ten booklets. Pieces such as "Wedding Day at Troldhaugen", "March of the Dwarfs" and "To Spring" are among Grieg's best-known works. In addition to these rather virtuoso pieces, however, there are also numerous simpler dances and melodies that can be mastered and successfully performed by piano students at a very early age. Before the emotional rollercoaster ride begins. Thomas Hengelbrock and the Balthasar Neumann Orchestra rediscover this 'Cavalleria rusticana' for the listener: purified and yet full of Italianità, naturalistically harsh in the sense of verismo and yet full of subtle suppleness. But above all: in the length and keys that the composer intended in the score of his one-act opera from 1890. The prerequisite for its effect is, of course, an ensemble of such quality. Starting with the orchestra (with gut strings) playing in a historically informed manner based on the turn of the last century. Or the Balthasar Neumann Choir, which fascinates with an unrivalled beauty of sound in the Brindisi alone, which has grown from 114 to 203 bars. The soloists are also great: Carolina López Moreno lends Santuzza a new, bright brilliance. Giorgio Berrugi's spinto tenor has excellent penetrating power. The best 'Cavalleria rusticana' of all time - in a reference recording." In his final decade, JS Bach researched and performed motets by his father’s cousin, Johann Christoph (1642-1703), whom he greatly admired. Although Johann Sebastian took the motet genre (and presumably his singers) to the limits of possibility, one can also hear the strong influence of the family tradition. This is the first of a series of location-specific Solomon’s Knot recording projects. They chose Arnstadt's inspirational Bachkirche for these works, not only for its wonderful acoustic, but also as a place which connects the two Bachs: Johann Christoph was born in Arnstadt, and Johann Sebastian’s first job as an organist was at the church, which came to be named after him. https://lnk.to/SolKnotBach/media:description> media:community> media:starRating count="3" average="5.00" min="1" max="5"/> media:statistics views="353"/> /media:community> /media:group> /entry> entry> id>yt:video:h-zvaw5MZdY/id> yt:videoId>h-zvaw5MZdY/yt:videoId> yt:channelId>UCIho7P7bGTITL25wPwMa3bQ/yt:channelId> title>Oliver Schnyder - J. 1:: Henry Moderlak: Proyecto Clarin. 17th Century Music from Spain for Trumpet and Orgue.

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 19.03.2024 · 11:09:52 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· With Proyecto Clarin - Spanish music of the 17th century for trumpet and organ, trumpeter Henry Moderlak has put together an extraordinary and particularly appealing album. He is accompanied on the "Queen of Instruments" by Joan Boronat Sanz. In some of the pieces, the trumpet line-up is extended by three more baroque trumpets and magnificently complemented by timpani.

2:: Mozart: Horn Concertos - Sibylle Mahni/Brahndenburg Symphony Orchestra

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 23.02.2024 · 17:38:03 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· The four concertos for horn and orchestra by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart form an important part of the repertoire for horn. Here they are interpreted by Sibylle Mahni, Professor of Horn at the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin, and the Brandenburg Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Andreas Spering in a captivating, emotional and, above all, "historically informed" performance.

3:: Alexandra Sostmann plays J S Bach: The Well Tempered Clavier, Vol I EPK

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 24.01.2024 · 08:30:47 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· If one reviews her earlier CD programmes and not least her last, very successful album “Grenzgänge”, it is striking that the works of Johann Sebastian Bach form a fixed point of reference for the pianist Alexandra Sostmann. Bach is almost always there. Therefore, it was only logical that she went into the studio to record a complete recording of one of his major works, the first part of the “Well-Tempered Clavier”, after an extensive and intensive study of the music.

4:: Renato Wiedemann: Roots - EPK (hochdeutsche Untertitel)

6:: Swiss Orchestra/Lena-Lisa Wüstendörfer: Swiss Dreams

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 24.01.2024 · 08:30:20 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· Unfortunately, the diversity of Swiss symphonic music from the late 18th to the early 20th century is hardly known to concertgoers today. This double CD contains works from the orchestra's concert programmes from recent years.

7:: Daniel Gortler plays Edvard Grieg: Lyric Pieces

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 24.01.2024 · 08:30:14 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· With his "Lyric Pieces", Edvard Grieg kept a kind of poetic piano diary: between 1867 and 1901, he composed 66 short character pieces, which were published in ten booklets. The Israeli-American pianist Daniel Gortler has selected his personal 21 favourites from the "Lyric Pieces" for his debut album on Prospero Classical.

8:: Thomas Hengelbrock: Cavalleria rusticana - Original Version

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 24.01.2024 · 08:30:09 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· "The first bars of this prelude have perhaps never been played so beautifully, so velvety and fragile. The best 'Cavalleria rusticana' of all time - in a reference recording." (Badische Zeitung)

9:: Daniel Behle RICHARD - Operatic Scenes and Orchestral Lieder by Richard Strauss and Richard Wagner

10:: Jermaine Sprosse: Johann Christoph Friedrich Bach - Keyboard Works

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 19.12.2023 · 08:46:42 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· Of Johann Sebastian Bach's four composing sons, Johann Christoph Friedrich is the least well-known today. The main reason for this is probably his position as court conductor in Bückeburg, which, unlike his brothers' places of work, was far removed from the musical metropolises of the time. Contemporaries praised his virtuoso piano playing, which Jermaine Sprosse can only confirm after studying his piano works in detail. On PROSPERO he presents an album with selected, particularly successful pieces by the "Bückeburg" Bach.

11:: Slavonic Journey - Czech music for flute & piano.

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 02.09.2023 · 12:27:36 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· Sarah Rumer is principal flutist of the renowned Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and, together with Ullrich Koella (piano), presents here rather lesser-known works for flute and piano from the pen of Czech composers. Among others, they introduce us to a work by Geraldine Mucha (1917-2012), the daughter-in-law of Alfons Mucha, one of the most important artists of Art Nouveau.

12:: Georgiana Pletea plays piano music by Beethoven, Chopin & Ravel

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 02.09.2023 · 12:27:29 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· The Romanian pianist Georgiana Pletea has won numerous competitions, including the Rahn Music Prize 2020, the Mozart Competition Targoviste, the Music Olympics Romania, the Carl Czerny International Competition and many more. On her debut album for PROSPERO, she presents compositions by Beethoven, Chopin and Ravel.

13:: Solomon's Knot: Bach Motets

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 09.07.2023 · 07:32:03 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· This recording features the complete motets by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750), set in the context of music from the previous generation of his family which inspired him. In his final decade, JS Bach researched and performed motets by his father’s cousin, Johann Christoph (1642-1703), whom he greatly admired. Although Johann Sebastian took the motet genre (and presumably his singers) to the limits of possibility, one can also hear the strong influence of the family tradition. This is the first of a series of location-specific Solomon’s Knot recording projects. They chose Arnstadt's inspirational Bachkirche for these works, not only for its wonderful acoustic, but also as a place which connects the two Bachs: Johann Christoph was born in Arnstadt, and Johann Sebastian’s first job as an organist was at the church, which came to be named after him. https://lnk.to/SolKnotBach

14:: Oliver Schnyder - J. S. Bach: Goldberg Variations, BWV 988

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 09.07.2023 · 07:31:53 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· The music of Johann Sebastian Bach has always fascinated the Swiss pianist Oliver Schnyder. Since early childhood, he has been preoccupied with the musical universe of this composer. Now Oliver Schnyder has tackled Bach's giant work of the "Goldberg Variations". Although it cannot be ruled out that there will be another version of BWV 988 in a few years, for the moment this recording is Oliver Schnyder's "definitive" version and a convincing calling card in all respects for original, thoughtful and highly emotional Bach playing.

15:: Viviane Chassot : Folk Flow (Didier Squiban, Yiruma, Einaudi, Satie, etc.) - EPK

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 19.05.2023 · 16:25:57 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· After the great success of her album "Bach Pur" (including Opus Klassik as "Instrumentalist of the Year"), accordionist Viviane Chassot now devotes herself to a completely different repertoire on her new album "Folk Flow": with Irish and Breton traditionals, with music by Didier Squiban, Einaudi, Chopin, Satie, Granados, Silvestrov, and others, she broadens the strictly "classical framework" and combines classical music with jazz, folk music and free improvisation. She surprises once again with this album. For the result is once again gripping, stirring, thought-provoking and amazing - and ultimately not so far removed from the music of the great Thomaskantor Johann Sebastian Bach.

16:: Marie Claude Chappuis: Aber die Liebe... Lieder and piano pieces by Johannes Brahms

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 05.05.2023 · 09:34:33 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· "But Love..." - an extremely interesting Brahms album dealing with the "metaphysical" Johannes Brahms, interested in religiosity and transcendence, with the "Four Serious Songs" completed in 1896 as the pivotal point. When the mezzo-soprano Marie-Claude and the pianist Christian Chamorel began to work out the programme for joint concerts and ultimately for an album, they quickly realised that an approach via an interpretation guided primarily by the instrumental, as well as a combination of the most diverse instrumentations, would give the project a welcome personal touch. Just like the haunting transcription of the "Four Serious Songs" for string quartet by violinist and conductor Jean-Pierre Moeckli. And so we experience a quasi "triple" Brahms here: once in the combination of voice-vocal, then in the combination of voice and string quartet and once with selected solo works for piano.

17:: Tenta La Fuga: Scarlatti - Father and Son. Cantatas, Sonatas

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 01.05.2023 · 11:44:19 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· Alessandro Scarlatti (1660-1725) and his son Domenico Scarlatti (1685-1757) are today the two best-known representatives of the Scarlatti family of musicians who were active throughout Europe in the 17th and 18th centuries. Alessandro was one of the main exponents of the Neapolitan school and was particularly appreciated for his vocal music (operas, oratorios, cantatas, etc.) during his lifetime. Today, Domenico is most famous for his numerous compositions for keyboard instruments, which were mainly written in Spain. Here, their cantatas are effectively combined with Domenico's sonatas.

18:: Isaac Makhdoomi - Antonio Vivaldi: Concerti per flauto e arie

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 01.05.2023 · 10:59:09 ··· ···

19:: Dmitry Smirnov: Invitation au Voyage - Edouard Lalo, Camille Saint-Saëns, etc.

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 30.04.2023 · 16:44:07 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· The new album of the Basel Chamber Orchestra brings an interesting compilation and shows references between French and Russian music in the late 19th century. Violinist Dmitry Smirnov interprets the 1st and 4th violin concertos by Édouard Lalo. The latter work is called the "Concerto russe" because Lalo used songs from Rimsky-Korsakov's collection of folk songs Opus 24. The soloist took up these songs used here and arranged them himself for chamber orchestra, or for violin and chamber orchestra. Presented in this way in the context of Lalo's "Concert russe", these new creations add an extremely interesting new note to the musical bridge between East and West. A note that immediately met with the interest of Heinz Holliger, who is always open to new and unusual things and who could be won over as conductor and "spiritus rector" for this exciting project.

20:: Sinfonieorchester Basel/Ivor Bolton: Saint Saëns - Symphonic Poems. EPK

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 14.04.2023 · 10:35:16 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the death of the important French composer Camille Saint-Saëns, the Basel Symphony Orchestra under its conductor Ivor Bolton had set itself the goal of giving its audience an insight into the composer's well-known and lesser-known symphonic works. In addition to the symphonies and various concertos, the orchestra has explicitly focused on the symphonic poems of the composer of the "Carnival of the Animals". For the first time, these works as well as the well-known "Bacchanale" from the opera "Samson et Dalila" have been recorded according to Hugh Macdonalds' new critical edition published by Bärenreiter.

··· ··· ··· ··· The Swiss soprano Kathrin Hottiger and her piano accompanist Edward Rushton have dedicated their new album to the earth's satellite: "Mon amie la lune - My friend the moon" is the title of the digipack on which compositions by Theodor Kirchner, Claude Debussy, Edvard Grieg and the relatively unknown Vaudois composer Pierre Maurice have been recorded. A delightful compilation of songs and piano compositions that all revolve around the themes of night, nocturne and moon.  https://lnk.to/AmieLune

··· ··· ··· ··· After having devoted many years to the instrumental ensemble music of Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber, the Swiss early music ensemble Les Passions de l'Âme, together with its artistic director Meret Lüthi, also turned to his opus magnum, the 15 Rosary Sonatas, in a marathon of three concerts. They then went into the studio and recorded all the sonatas for a double album in co-production with Bayern 4 Klassik, which is now published by PROSPERO in a splendid edition with many illustrations and informative texts on the work.
