1:: The ordeal / soundscape+film

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 19.07.2008 · 05:41:50 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· In this video I combine one of my soundscapes with bits and pieces of the Japanese film 'A snake of June'. The story and atmosphere of that film is quite different from what I imagined to do here. For my soundscape I've collected several normal daily city-life sounds and combined them with environmental noises from the film and with music by Bernard Hermann. In the middle of this video -in the 'kitchen-cooking scene' I also use an excerpt from 'Sabotage', an early Hitchcock-film from the thirties that's used here to suggest a television playing in the background. And..., talking about a great master of suspense, Hitchcock, the music in this clip is taken from his masterpiece 'Psycho' and is composed by Bernard Hermann. This piece from Herrmann's brilliant score is called 'Marion and Sam'. I leave it up to you -viewer and listener- to interpret this video's 'story' in your own way. Hope you'll enjoy the atmosphere of this video. [PdR]

2:: La Sconosciuta / Tornatore-Morricone-Rappaport superb!

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 13.07.2008 · 04:53:22 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· Some segments of Giuseppe Tornatore's film 'La Sconosciuta', one of my recent favourites. The way Giuseppe Tornatore and Ennio Morricone work together is really unique. La Sconosciuta is in my opinion of the same high standard as Tornatore's 'Malena'. In both films the music works perfect and is really instrumental in developing the story and the characters in the same way as in real good opera. I enjoy directors like Tornatore who can really use film music in an 'operatic' way. Morricone is a giant and Tornatore knows exactly how to use the 'operatic', or -if u like- 'story developing/character building' music of Morricone. I made a selection of scenes and combined them with several sequences of the brilliant score of Ennio Morricone. Two excerpts/scenes are unaltered and are shown in its original form, the one from 0'52 to 2'09 and the closing scene of the film, here from 8'36 until the end of my video. The other material shows my selection of scenes-frames, combined with some nice excerpts of the score. I hope this video shows the immense artistic quality and deep humanity of this very moving film that tells a very important story. When the film arrives at the scene where Irena/Giorgia (a superb role by Ksenia Rappaport) touches her breasts (here in my video at 7'32) I can't help crying. If you know what has just happened to her there (and not for the first time!) you'll understand why... strongly recommended!

4:: Malena-the tragic story of the most beautiful woman in town

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 06.10.2007 · 01:52:32 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· excerpts from the Italian film Malena. During World War II a young Sicilian boy falls in love with the most beautiful and most tragical woman in town. Director Tornatore creates magic on the screen through combining the gorgeous Monica Bellucci (Malena) with Ennio Morricone's exceptional and very moving score for this film.

5:: Film 'Twin Sisters' ('De Tweeling') scene in The Hague, 1947

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 03.10.2007 · 19:19:28 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· 'The Hague, 1947', in my opinion the most gripping scene of the dutch Oscar nominated film 'De Tweeling' ('Twin Sisters', 2002), with great acting by Thekla Reuten (playing Lotte) and Nadja Uhl (playing Anna). Nominated for an Academy Award (Best Foreign Language Film, 2003), TWIN SISTERS (DE TWEELING) is the emotional and provocative story that tells the tale of two sisters who must come to terms with their fate amid the heat of World War II. Lotte and Anna become orphans by the age of six. One is sent to live a life of privilege with wealthy relatives in the Netherlands, while the other stays in Germany to face a harsh existence on her uncle's farm. When they reconnect years later, they not only discover that their lives have taken drastically different paths but, following Germany's invasion of Holland, they find themselves pitted on opposite sides of the war. Powerful and thought provoking, this award-winning motion picture earned worldwide critical acclaim! The picture is far from good here, but this scene gives you an idea of the emotional power of this great film. Buy and watch it in good quality on dvd!

6:: Film 'De Grot' ('The Cave') - closing scene

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 11.09.2007 · 00:30:48 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· here's the very moving closing scene of the dutch film 'De Grot' ('The Cave'), released in 2001. director: Martin Koolhoven. a film about evil, love, and most of all, fate. the beautiful music is composed by Fons Merkies.

7:: Birth - closing scene on the beach

01.01.1970 · 01:00:00 ··· 10.09.2007 · 19:52:56 ··· ···
··· ··· ··· ··· Final scene of Jonathan Glazer's impressive movie 'Birth' (2004). We see Anna (played brilliantly by Nicole Kidman), confused and desparate on the beach, on the very day she remarries. Her fresh new husband, Joseph (played by Danny Huston), tries to comfort her. The great score of the film is by composer Alexandre Desplat.
