But Ms Minto faced criticism from opposition MSPs over the “lack of substance” amid accusations the statement was made to appease the Scottish Greens after the party announced it would hold a vote on the future of the Bute House powersharing agreement. It comes as the Alba Party submitted a motion of no confidence in Greens co-leader Patrick Harvie after he refused to say whether he accepted the findings of the review. In her statement, Ms Minto said the Scottish Government was taking time to consider the findings of the Cass Review and whether they were “relevant” to Scottish gender identity healthcare. But however the presence of a bouncy castle put patent to that theory, given that bouncy castles have been banned by SNP local authorities on health and safety grounds.” This came in response to SNP business spokesman Richard Thomson’s criticism of Michelle Donelan who “cost the taxpayer £15,000 after falsely accusing an academic of supporting Hamas”. - Contents of video: - 00:00 - SNP Richard Thompson asks question 01:49 - Penny Mordaunt mocks SNP END MORE SCOTTISH POLITICS: https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/news/politics/ Become a Scottish Sun Subscriber and hit the bell to be the first to know Read The Scottish Sun: http://www.theScottishsun.co.uk Like The Sun on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thescottishsun/ Follow The Sun on Twitter: https://twitter.com/ScottishSun #pennyMordaunt #snp #politics

30:: Marjorie Taylor Greene tells Emily Maitlis to 'F***Off!'

01.01.1970 01:00:00 06.03.2024 13:58:16
Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene responded “Why don’t you f*** off?” when asked by the British journalist Emily Maitlis about her reported endorsement of a conspiracy theory blaming a Jewish space laser for wildfires in California. Greene made the remark to former BBC anchor Maitlis, who now hosts The News Agents podcast, at Mar-a-Lago in Florida, where she was celebrating wins by former US President Donald Trump in a number of state primaries on Super Tuesday, March 5. The encounter was recorded by Rory Symon, a producer with the podcast. In Symon’s video, Maitlis asks Greene a number of questions about Nikki Haley, Trump’s rival for the Republican presidential nomination, and about Trump’s presidential vice-presidential nominee. These Greene answers happily. However, when Maitlis asks “why so many people that support Donald Trump love conspiracy theories, including yourself,” Greene says it’s Maitlis who is the conspiracy theorist. “The left and the media spreads more conspiracy theories,” Greene says. Maitlis then asks: “What about Jewish space lasers?” to which Greene replies, “Why don’t you go talk about Jewish space lasers, and, really, why don’t you f*** off – how about that?” Become a Scottish Sun Subscriber and hit the bell to be the first to know Read The Scottish Sun: http://www.theScottishsun.co.uk Like The Sun on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thescottishsun/ Follow The Sun on Twitter: https://twitter.com/ScottishSun #America # marjorieTaylorGreene #politics

41:: HPMA's U-TURN: SNP asked to confirm if this really is end of plans for HPMA's

01.01.1970 01:00:00 08.11.2023 18:26:08
The Scottish Government has confirmed controversial plans which would have restricted fishing in 10% of waters will not go ahead, with Net Zero Secretary Mairi McAllan saying that previously proposed highly protected marine areas (HPMAs) “will not be progressed”. The fishing industry, which had been fiercely opposed to the proposals, welcomed her statement – with Conservatives hailing the decision as a “victory for our fishermen”. Tory Jamie Halcro Johnson said: 'Not all are convinced that this really is the final death knell of HPMA's. So can I ask the cabinet secretary to confirm once and for all this really is the end for their plans for HPMA's and that something that looks suspiciously just like a re-branded version of them won't appear under a different guise at some point in the future?' While 55% of all respondents who responded to a government consultation on HPMAs supported their introduction, a “large majority” of these responses came from a single campaign. When campaign responses are removed from the consultation, 76% were opposed to HPMAs, with only a fifth (20%) backing their introduction. SNP and Green ministers in the Scottish Government had previously outlined plans to give 10% of waters this designation, which would have placed strict limits on activities in such areas. But after an outcry from fishing and coastal communities Ms McAllan said back in June that the government would no longer seek to implement the policy, and would instead develop a “new pathway and timetable” as part of efforts to make Scotland “nature-positive” by 2030. In its response to the consultation, published on Tuesday, the government confirmed that “HPMAs will not be introduced in 10% of Scottish seas by 2026”. Nicola Sturgeon went out of her way to be “different” from England on pandemic curbs for “political” reasons, an ex Downing Street aide has told the UK Covid inquiry. Lord Edward Udny-Lister - one of Boris Johnson’s key advisers - also claimed the then Prime Minister and Ms Sturgeon “generally didn’t like each other very much”. And he said the former First Minister attempted to frame decisions as “Scottish” rather than “English” by taking the same course of action on different days. He suggested that by doing so, Ms Sturgeon created “a great deal of distrust” and a “lot of frustration”. The claims came in explosive evidence to the UK Covid inquiry, and following controversy during the pandemic about the First Minister repeatedly taking a harder stance than Downing Street. Police and Just Stop Oil have accused each other of blocking an ambulance car during a slow march by climate activists on Waterloo Bridge in central London. Around 55 protesters, who had travelled from South Wales and the North and South West of England, walked in the road on Wednesday as part of an ongoing JSO autumn campaign against fossil fuel licences. The Metropolitan Police said on social media that one of the vehicles trapped in the traffic jam was an ambulance vehicle on blue lights that could not get past. But JSO countered that it was in fact officers who had blocked that side of the road, and said it has a policy of moving out of the way for emergency services vehicles. A motorcyclist has been fined over a crash in September 2022 in which his bike flipped and burst into flames, Cambridgeshire police said. Stavius Gordon, 31, was riding his motorcycle when he hurtled into a turning Audi, according to statement released by the Cambridgeshire Constabulary on September 26. “Gordon lost a toe as a result of the collision but it was thanks to his helmet that it wasn’t anything more serious," investigating officer PC Sarah Pride said. The motorcyclist pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention, and without insurance, in Cambridge Crown Court on September 21. He was given a £120 fine and nine points on his licence. “He initially denied riding the motorcycle but thanks to dashcam footage and statements from other motorists, who witnessed his driving in the lead up to the collision, he was charged,” police said. Mr Griffin said: 'My daughter Rosa was born on 1 April 2017 at University hospital Wishaw. She was born at 27 weeks gestation, weighing 535g or just one pound and three ounces.' He continued: 'We were left hoping and praying for a miracle, but miracles do not happen—miraculous people happen. After the birth, the miraculous staff at Wishaw worked to keep our daughter alive and get her into the intensive care unit for the start of a five-month rollercoaster journey of recovery. There could not have been a stabilisation and subsequent transfer to Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen or maybe even the north of England, because she was too sick.' 58:: SNP 'cold' speech 'with no empathy for families' slammed by Tory Sandesh Gulhane

01.01.1970 01:00:00 24.09.2023 13:30:10
At a debate this week into neonatal services at University Hospital Wishaw Tory Sandesh Gulhane called SNP Minister for Public Health and Women's Health, Jenny Minto, 'cold' and 'with no empathy'. Mr Gulhane said: 'What a cold, managerial speech with no empathy for families that was from the minister. I draw members’ attention to my entry in the register of members’ interests—I am a practising NHS general practitioner. We are disillusioned with the Scottish Government’s stewardship of our NHS and the indifference shown by successive SNP health secretaries to many well-documented calls by local communities to support critical services. Here we are yet again: 12,000 people support Lynne McRitchie’s petition to reconsider downgrading University hospital Wishaw’s award-winning neonatal services. The Scottish Government remains unconcerned. I ask the cabinet secretary to look the families in the gallery in the eye and tell them the truth. He does not care about their opinion.' Groups representing fishing industries were strongly opposed to the HPMA proposals and some SNP MSPs joined in the criticism. Ms McAllan stressed the need to prevent damage to marine ecosystems. She told MSPs: “I have listened intently and am in no doubt of the strong views both for and against. “But if there has been one consistent point of consensus, it is that doing nothing is not an option. “In fact, we know from a recent Government-funded survey that 85% of Scottish respondents consider protecting the marine environment as important to them. “I can confirm today that the proposal as consulted on will not be progressed. “This means we will no longer seek to implement HPMAs across 10% of Scotland’s seas by 2026.” Become a Scottish Sun Subscriber and hit the bell to be the first to know Read The Sun: http://www.theScottishsun.co.uk Like The Sun on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thescottishsun/ Follow The Sun on Twitter: https://twitter.com/ScottishSun #snp #hpmas #scotland
