media:description>The village of Lofou is a village in the province of Limassol, 26 kilometres northwest of the city.
It is built on the hills at an altitude of 800 meters and bordered by Ypsonas, the village of Agios Therapon and Pera Pedi.
The name Lofou is due to the location that is built on a hill. Its original name was "lofo" meaning Hill, which was used until the 20th century as evidenced by the primary school records.
There are no exact references of when Lofou was founded. However, it must have been inhabited at the time of copper, which is evident by the findings of vases from this period.
The most believed theory, however, is that the village should have been founded in the years of the Frankish rule. Thus, its foundation dates back to the years of Arab raids when the islanders left the coast to settle in more secure areas.
According to Petros Porakos, in the book "Lofou, the people in space and time" (2004), the village, based on archaeological evidence, was inhabited over and over again since it was destroyed many times.
The first written reference for Lofou, is placed during the Frankish period. According to the medieval historian, Leontios Machairas, Lofou in 1392, was given by the King James I of Cyprus, to his brother Janot-de-Lusignian.
Finally, according to Venetian manuscript, dating back to the end of the 15th century, Lofou was included in the list of Cypriot villages that were considered an estate of the king of Cyprus himself.
During the period of the British occupation, according to researcher Porakos (2004) Lofou transformed into a large vineyard, while in the years 1946 - 1986 the village was abandoned by its inhabitants, who were transferred to Ypsonas.
Walking through Lofou, the architecture will impress you. The dense construction, the uphill and downhill cobblestone streets, the distinctive masonry of the buildings, the impressive "front doors" are only some of the elements that "give" Lofou its unique beauty.
The church of Lofou is dedicated to the Evangelismos Theotokou. It is a 19th-century church built on a small hill in the west of the centre of the village. In Lofou there are several chapels such as the chapel of Agia Marina in the southwest of the village built in 1983, the chapel of Prophet Elias which was renovated at the end of the 20th century and the chapel of Agios Georgios to the west of the village which was renovated in 2000
In addition to the village there are many sights such as the Community Farm Museum, the old Olive Press, the Private Folklore Museum, the nature trail which is about one and a half kilometres long and follows a downhill course towards the traditional fountain of Elitzis, and a school that is built on the highest point of the village. It is a neoclassical building that adopts elements of the traditional architecture of the houses.
It would be a failure to not mention that Lofou has evoked important personalities, such as the hero of 1821 Ioannis Stavrianos and the hero of the sergeant of 1974 Elias Kannauros. Statues of Ioannis Stavrianos and Elias Kannaouros are located within the courtyard of the Lofou Elementary School.
Lofou, according to the census that took place on the island from 1881 until 2011, had several population fluctuations. More specifically, in 1881 it had 578 inhabitants and then gradually increased to 962 in 1921. In 1931 it decreased to 952 and to 924 in 1936. In 1960 it decreased again to 234 and increase in 1973 to 317. In 1976 the inhabitants of Lofou were reduced to 156. The village in 1982 numbered 106 inhabitants. In 1992, they dropped to 37. In 2001, they had only 10 residents, and in 2011 the number of people grew to 46.
Lofou in the past had one of the largest vineyards in Cyprus, but today, because of the wheat, the cultivation of vineyards has been largely abandoned. In addition, at a very slow pace, almond trees, olives, cereals and legumes are grown.
In the village there are also large uncultivated areas, where the wild natural vegetation predominates.

media:description>With crystal-clear blue waters and stunning, natural beauty, Pissouri has seen its popularity soar in the past few years, making it one of the most popular places for visitors and locals alike. It is also seen as an ideal place to buy property by expats looking to move or retire on the island.
Facilities on the beach include toilets, showers, sun beds, umbrellas, water sports and a beach volleyball court. There are five public footpaths, with two of them offering disabled access.
The west end of the bay leads to the headland of Asprorotsos (‘white rock’) that protrudes from the sea. At its end, there are small, sandy coves. The views from the top are spectacular, whilst you may also get a glimpse of the wild birds that visit the area, including falcons. The beach is often a breeding ground for sea turtles.
Visitors can enjoy many restaurants, bars and cafes lining the beach, or visit the village of Pissouri and explore its charming, traditional character.
Lifeguards with lifesaving equipment and first aid services are stationed at the beach from April – October, 09:00 – 17:00, and until 18:00 during the summer season. Access is easy by foot, bike, bus or car with car-parking facilities available.

media:description>Mazotos
Mazotos is a village in the Larnaka province, located about 20 kilometres southwest of the city. The village is built on a coastal plain at an average altitude of 35m.
The village of Mazotos boarders the village of Alaminos to the west, the village of Anofotia to the northwest and the village of Kiti to the east.
The name of the village:
According to Simo Menandros and Mas Latri, Mazotos was named after the plant "mazin" (Rhodterium spinosum) which means an area that has many such plants of the wild flora of Cyprus. For the same reason, the Mazotos place name can be found in other parts of Cyprus such as Mazeri and Mazeron.
According to a second version, the original name of the village was "Mastotos". Over time the letters "st" of the word became "z" and so came the name Mazotos.
Mazotos is marked on old maps under the name "Masoto or Masota".
The Mazotos on Constantine the Great was the administrative capital of the province and was known for its agriculture and its products. In 747 A.D. on the beach of Mazotos took place the famous naval battle of Keramia.
Until 1307, the village was a property of the Templars that later was given to the Order of the Ioannites. During the period of Frankish rule, Mazotos was one of the main "barons" of Cyprus. During the Venetian occupation, it was again the centre of one of the then 12 provinces of the island. The province of Mazotos comprised 46 villages.
It is noteworthy that, in the Mediaeval times, 3 km southwest of Mazotos near the sea was the settlement of "Latourou", which was named after a descendant of De La Tour, who was a strong aristocratic family of France. Later, during the Ottoman domination, it became a manor and eventually it was bought in part by local residents.
Mazotos has experienced several fluctuations in its years of existence. More specifically, in 1881 the inhabitants of the village were 280, who rose to 298 in 1891, to 397 in 1901, to 502 in 1911. In 1921 they fell to 500 and rose to 578 in 1931 and to 707 in 1946. In 1960 the inhabitants fell back to 545. Later in 1976 they rose to 608 and dropped to 546 in 1982. In 2001 Mazotos residents reached 754 while according to the 2011 census it was 832.
The inhabitants of Mazotos are engaged in agriculture. So the area is cultivated with varieties of citrus fruits, olives, carobs, cereals mainly barley, forage plants, various kinds of vegetables such as artichokes, tomatoes, cucumbers, watermelons, zucchini and okra, apricots and figs.
Mazotos has begun in recent years to develop tourism and building with the construction of cottages, especially from Nicosia. The community is home to a number of foreign, mainly English, pensioners who have discovered the beauties of the community and have decided to live permanently in it.

media:description>Pavel Muntyan has been a busy man. The amateur artist has been constructing a fantastic art installation on the cliffs near Melanda Bay, since 2015. Come with us as we explore his labyrinths. You will not be disappointed.
The area of coast between Pissouri and Episkopi Garrison is packed full of wonderful surprises. There are some lovely, unspoilt beaches, amazing clifftop views and some very nice restaurants to tempt you. One such place is Melanda Beach, shown here.
To get to Melanda Beach, you need to come off the motorway at Avdimou and head for the coast. It is signposted. The road can be a bit bumpy in places, but take it slowly and you will be fine. Just before you get to the restaurant, there is a right-hand turn that takes you past this building. Follow that...
When you can see some standing stones, take the left turn off the main track. It will bring you here.
It is in a lovely setting. The landscape is fairly rocky, with cliffs separating you from the sea.
And this is the labyrinth itself. There are actually three of them. There is also a stone circle, or square to be precise, and some other pieces of art.

media:description>Paramali is a village in Limassol. It is a village located within the British Base in Akrotiri.
The once-Turkish Cypriot village of Paramali lies at the estuary of the homonymous river, which created a huge 1150-meter delta.
In the village Paramali stands the church of Panagia Zodochou Pigis. A beautiful stone-built chapel built to the south of the village. The church was plundered in 1963 and converted into a stable that housed animals, and in 1977 the chapel was restored to its present form.
Paramali is famous for its beach. It is a beach that gives absolute tranquillity, serenity and harmony with nature.
Its landscape consists of two huge rocks on its eastern and western edges. The peaks of these rocks are inhabited by pigeons, ravens and seagulls.
Almost all along it is covered by fine sand and in some places by pebbles. Often turtles come out to the east end of the beach to lay their eggs in the fine sand and colourful pebbles.
Its most striking feature is the view from the nearby hills, with the orange groves spreading green, almost to the tide.
This beach, not known to many, is not organised or staffed by lifeguards, yet it impresses and fascinates every visitor.

media:description>Rancho Appaloosa was created by Christos Maximos modeled after the famous horse farms of Middleburg Virginia (USA). It is an environmental sanctuary within the bucolic atmosphere of which to house several of the activities of the family's group of companies including the breeding of Appaloosa horses – the horses of American Indians.
The property is now available to be let on a prolonged lease as a ranch or for horse breeding.
