Introduced by Polish philosopher Roman Ingarden in the 1930s, these questions have become recurrent in analytically oriented philosophy of music. To this day they are questions that do not seem easy to answer, in a framework made more complex by the generalization of phonographic and video-phonographic recording systems - and by that great recording system that is the Web. Or, de telles observations Ă©taient dĂ©jĂ  en germe dans la pensĂ©e des Anciens, qui avaient notĂ© que certains animaux rĂ©agissaient Ă  des modes et Ă  des rythmes et sont capables de produire des expressions sonores irrĂ©ductibles Ă  des fonctions biologiques ou de communication. Ces observations s’inscrivent dans une problĂ©matique plus gĂ©nĂ©rale, touchant Ă  la dĂ©finition de la musique comme art et produit spĂ©cifique de l’intelligence humaine. ··· ··· ··· ··· What is - and more precisely what does it consist of - a musical work? In what sense can - or cannot - it coincide with a score or a certain performance? In what way does its identity persist over historical time? Introduced by Polish philosopher Roman Ingarden in the 1930s, these questions have become recurrent in analytically oriented philosophy of music. To this day they are questions that do not seem easy to answer, in a framework made more complex by the generalization of phonographic and video-phonographic recording systems - and by that great recording system that is the Web. In this presentation I will try to understand how it is appropriate to relaunch this question today, focusing on its meaning and theoretical scope in a perspective open to the multiplicity of devices that populate the contemporary musical world.

··· ··· ··· ··· Conférence d'Agnès Molinier Arbo et Alessandro Arbo à l'OICRM de la Faculté de musique de l'Université de Montréal, 15 mars 2023 La recherche actuelle, aussi bien scientifique que musicologique, a montré que les séquences sonores émises par certains oiseaux forment des unités musicales comportant des variations d’intervalle, de durée, de timbre, voire, dans certains cas, ce que l’on pourrait appeler un vrai style individuel, transmis de génération en génération et constituant une sorte de « proto-culture ». Or, de telles observations étaient déjà en germe dans la pensée des Anciens, qui avaient noté que certains animaux réagissaient à des modes et à des rythmes et sont capables de produire des expressions sonores irréductibles à des fonctions biologiques ou de communication. Ces observations s’inscrivent dans une problématique plus générale, touchant à la définition de la musique comme art et produit spécifique de l’intelligence humaine. Pour en saisir les enjeux, nous nous concentrerons, entre autres, sur la lecture et le commentaire de quelques sources qui jalonnent l’évolution de la pensée antique sur ce sujet.
