Cities trying to ‘optimise’ space for pedestrian use

Sky News Australia Melbourne Deputy Lord Mayor Nicholas Reece says either motorists or pedestrians will always end up getting “cranky” regarding a push by the City of Sydney to narrow roads for wider footpaths.
The council also wants to install more pedestrian crossings.
Victoria could also be scrapping parking requirements for apartments near public transport.
The move is in a bid to ease traffic congestion in the area.
Mr Reece notes each city is trying to “optimise” the limited space to increase the number of visitors.
