Alleluia! Christ is Risen!
He is Risen Indeed! Alleluia!
The fast of Lent has ended and Christ has risen from the dead and lives and reigns to all eternity. Through this miracle of God's love and mercy, our sins have been washed clean in his blood and we too will rise again to new life. In celebration, we sing praises to God on this holy day through many of the church's greatest hymns. This hymn by Christian Fürchtegott Gellert is one of my favorite Easter hymns. It's text boldly proclaims that through Christ's resurrection, we have eternal confidence and hope in him. This beautiful thought is perhaps best portrayed in the final line, "Faith shall cry, as fails each sense: Jesus is my confidence!" May this faith ever be your cornerstone even as senses fail and your final breath is taken.

Jesus lives! The vict’ry’s won!
Death no longer can appall me;
Jesus lives! Death’s reign is done!
From the grave will Christ recall me.
Brighter scenes will then commence;
This shall be my confidence.
Jesus lives! To Him the throne
High o’er all the world is given.
I shall go where He is gone,
Live and reign with Him in heaven.
God is faithful. Doubtings, hence!
