In this video, we take a look at the efforts by #Xi Jinping, then vice mayor of #Xiamen, to protect the local cultural heritage sites of #Gulangyu, an enchanting island off the coast of Xiamen City in southeastern China. The efforts contributed to the island's designation as a #UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2017. Though Gulangyu has always been known for its charm, preservation of local historical sites and cultural relics lagged behind in the 1980s.
