Sheetal Devi from Jammu, a teenaged armless archer , has became the first Indian woman to win two gold medals in a single edition of the Asian Para Games by claiming the top honours in the women's individual compound event Hangzhou, China . Discovered at a military camp in Kishtwar she was adopted by the Indian Army in her childhood, Sheetal, who became the first armless woman to win a Para World Archery Championships medal in July, defeated Singapore's Alim Nur Syahidah 144-142 in the gold medal match.

Being the first armless female archer in history, 16-year-old Sheetal Devi made history. Her remarkable achievement at the Asian Para Games 2023 brought her numerous medals, inspiring admiration from many, including business magnate Anand Mahindra. In recognition of her outstanding accomplishments, Mahindra gave her a personalized vehicle. After overcoming physical obstacles on her way from Jammu and Kashmir, Sheetal went on to become the first woman to win the Para World Archery Championships without an arm. Her perseverance was acknowledged by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Indian para-athletes won 111 medals, tying for fifth place in the Games and setting a new record. "I belong to a small village.
