Sinead O'Connor was a "trailblazer," Dubliners reflect on singer-songwriter’s legacy

Locals in the coastal Irish town of Bray left tributes for singer Sinéad O'Connor outside her former home on Thursday, the day after her death. Flowers, candles and pictures were left in memory of the Irish singer.

O'Connor, best known for the 1990 chart-topping hit "Nothing Compares 2 U," died on Wednesday aged 56 after police found her unresponsive at an address in London.

In Dublin, people shared why the late singer-songwriter was a “musical genius” and “trailblazer.” Michelle Beatty, 45, had to pull over the car after she heard the news of the star’s death, calling O'Connor "brave, bold and beautiful" and "important for so many women."

Known as much for her outspoken views on religion, sex, feminism and war as for her music, O’Connor will be remembered in some quarters for ripping up a photo of Pope John Paul II during a television appearance on "Saturday Night Live" in protest of the Catholic Church's history of child abuse.
