‘Increasingly a problem’: David Pocock says life insurance industry ‘wants to be regulated’

Sky News Australia Independent Senator David Pocock believes the life insurance industry in Australia “wants to be regulated” after calls for a ban on them discriminating against people based on DNA.
Mr Pocock, along with fellow independent Kylea Tink, have pushed to try and ban life insurers from discriminating based on an individual’s DNA.
“It’s increasingly becoming a problem,” Mr Pocock told Sky News Australia.
“They’re seeing more and more people not wanting to get a DNA test, because it means their life insurance – they’re either uninsurable or their premiums go up.
“The life insurance industry in Australia has said to the government we want to be regulated; it’s not working in our current regulatory framework, but this needs to be the first step.”
