Putin promises African leaders free grain following Black Sea deal exit

Global News Russian President Vladimir Putin promised heads of African states that he would ensure that Africa does not face food insecurity as a result of the end of the Black Sea grain agreement.
Addressing African leaders at a summit in St. Petersburg, he said Russia would, over the next three to four months, supply Burkina Faso, Zimbabwe, Mali, Somalia, Central African Republic and Eritrea with 25 to 50 tons of free grains.
Putin, 70, also claimed that Western sanctions made it more difficult for grains to be exported from Moscow.
“This is a paradoxical situation. On the one hand, western countries are obstructing supplies of our grain and fertilizers, while on the other hand, I will say it plainly, they hypocritically blame us for the current crisis in the world food market,” he said.
Furthermore, Putin expressed further interest in deepening Russia’s ties with Africa and was confident it could radically increase trade. The summit was the first between Russia and Africa since 2019.
