The Junior School hosted its seventh annual symposium with Dulwich College Junior School in London. The theme was "Connections and Communication."
The day began with a striking aerial photo of all 880 students depicting the Earth and the human connections around it. During the assembly, led by Head Students, House Captains, and Equality Ambassadors, they explored the history of communication from cave paintings to smartphones and highlighted key speeches that shaped history. A stunning performance by the Contemporary Dance CCA and a British Sign Language rendition of Michael Jackson's "You Are Not Alone" added to the presentation.
The Symposium provided a variety of experiences that promoted both academic and social growth, moving beyond the traditional curriculum. Students engaged in a range of STEM, creative, and active sessions focused on Communication and Connections. Activities included balloon animals, blindfolded art, drama, coding with Sphero bots, Morse code with potatoes, tidal dash pool games, code-breaking, filmmaking, laser cutting, painting, catapult building, Braille, signalling, writing to pen pals, and whispering messages with handmade telephones. The energy was electrifying!
The day ended with a reflection on the evolution of communication and its significance in society, emphasising the importance of effective interaction.
Finally, a conference call with Miki Devitt, Deputy Head of Junior School in London, saw the Head Students and House Captains sharing the day's highlights. Miki's positive response set the tone for their own symposium on Friday.
To truly embrace the "Worldwise" philosophy and embody the essence of a global citizen, effective and compassionate connections are key.
