Loose Women star Nadia Sawalha said it is "ludicrous" to think having a baby over the age of 40 is "selfish" following Rachel Burden's admission. The BBC Breakfast and BBC Radio 5 Live presenter was 41 when she gave birth to her fourth child Henry with husband Luke Mendham prematurely back in 2016.
Reflecting on the decision, Rachel, 49, shared that while their youngest was deemed healthy at the time, she believes it was "a really selfish thing to do" and called herself "arrogant" for believing the birth would be just as easy as her previous three.
Discussing the topic on Loose Women today, Nadia, 59, who also gave birth in her 40s, said she disagreed with society's negative perception of having children later on in life.
She shared: "I did find it funny that this word 'selfish' is thrown at women whatever we do." As anchor Kaye Adams clarified that Rachel described herself as that, Nadia went on to say: "I just don't believe in it. Why is selfish always a negative thing? Why can't you do something for one's self?
"How many people have a baby purely for altruistic reaons to put into the world to support the world? We don't, we have a baby because ourselves want to have a baby. The whole thing is just ludicrous to me."
