Die Mauern von Schloss Burg erzählen viele Geschichten - über Menschen und Macht, über Kultur und Kriege, über Grafen und Geistliche. Die Grafen von Berg residierten hier nach Baubeginn um 1130 mehrere hundert Jahre und vergrößerten stetig ihren Einflussbereich. Ihre Nachfolger herrschten Ende des 15. Jh. über große Teile des heutigen Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen (NRW). Später velegten sie ihren Sitz nach Düssseldorf. Schloss Burg verlor an Bedeutung und die Anlage verfiel. Damit beginnt die zweite große Geschichte. Initiert und finanziert von Bürgern des Bergischen Landes wurde das Schloss wieder aufgebaut. Sie gründeten den Verein zur Erhaltung der Schlossruine, dem es schließlich gelang, den Aufbau mit Hilfe von Spenden 1919 weitesgehend zum Abluss zu bringen. Noch heute ist Schloss Burg Wahrzeichen der Region.
The walls of Schloss Burg tell many stories - of people and power, of culture and combat, of earls and ecclestical men. The Earls of Berg resided here when the castle was first built in 1130 and over the course of the centuries they constantly heightened their sphere of influence. By the end of the 15th century their sucessors ruled large parts of present day North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW). Later they moved their residency to Düsseldorf and Schloss Burg became less significant. Subsequently the castle grounds fell into disrepair. And this is where the second interesting story begins. Citizens of the local area - the Bergisches Land - initiated and financed the rebuilding of the castle. They founded the Association for the Conservation of the Castle Ruins. With the aid of donations they were able to complete the rebuilding of the castle to a large extent by 1919 . Schloss Burg remains to be a landmark of the region up to this day.
